The us has decided to become more nationalist and less globalist. It’s focusing on its relationship with Mexico. I think the rest of the world massively underestimates and under appreciates what the us does for the world due to its interventionist policies since ww2 but once it’s gone, a lot of countries will notice it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you mistake "the world" as meaning "wealthy nations" - i.e. less than one in five inhabitants of the planet.
The extent to which it's benefitted the other +80% is arguable to say the least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I'm not mistaking anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, you are. There's a clear case to argue that U.S. intervention has stunted the growth and development of many countries and people in the pursuit of its own interests.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you’re confusing two things I have mentioned.
The interventionist policies are not what I am saying are benefits for the world. I am saying that because of those negatives, people overlook or underestimate the positives that the US does for the world and will miss this when it’s gone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what is it that the US does for the world that is unrelated to its interventionist policies?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what is it that the US does for the world that is unrelated to its interventionist policies?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who said it had to be unrelated? What my point was is that things like the Iraq war, involvement in many forgoing wars, invading several countries etc makes a lot of people forget about all of the positive consequences of the US and its actions.
Global free trade is a fkign huge one. Maybe AFC should look to calculate how many lives global trade enabled by the US has saved over the past 70 years say.
Should the US decline and not be the top global leader when it is, who takes that mantle? Some people on here question whether the US is democratic, ok. But who’s next in line? China?
Look at the indisputable levels of peace that the world has had since WW2. Look at the number of deaths from conflicts, life expectancy, child mortality rates, poverty rates.
People in 2025 can look back and brush this all off as a natural consequence of human progress but it’s not a matter of evolution, it was an imposition. An imposition of the US vision of free trade, free market economies, democracies (not dictatorships like we saw in extremee left countries). The US has the chance to tariff the world into poverty, to not allow free trade such as it did, instead it enforced a system where yes it stayed well on top but a fk ton of benefit was provided for emerging countries.
Are they self-serving? Yes, of course. But you haven’t seen anything yet when you compare post WW2 with the next 20-30 years say.
Excuse typos I’m ill and on my phone

Shall we compare real colonial powers like the UK, France and Spain to the US? Nah, thought not.
Hawaii, Philippines, Panama(which while taking control of the canal they set up independence for Panama from Colombia), Cuba for like three years and some tiny little specks in the ocean.
Some say Liberia, but Independence was recognised way back in the 1850s or something while Europe was running rampant for another 100 years on the continent. Liberia was primarily set up for freed African americans incidentally.
If the US were a colonial power they were feckin awful at it

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who said it had to be unrelated?

Colonial power or not, the US are permanently at war on foreign soil and have been since WW2. All over the world too, they’ve got their people killing other people because, well, they’re just always right aren’t they.

Up and down temperatures. Mixed precipitation. Had to do some banking last week was nice ish when I went in 40 minutes later I couldn't leave because freezing @#$& rain. Could hardly cross the sidewalk to get into taxi. Heavy snow has fortunately passed north and south of the river missing us so no real complaints.
But the real storm is coming after Jan.20th.
25% tariffs. Yeehaw. With no PM and parliament prorogued.

Fair play to Andy Burnham.
Shame the gutless Labour mp's didn’t have the minerals to go against their hopeless leader.
I see Truss is sending a stiff letter claiming she didn't crash the economy, how long before Reeve will be doing the same!!?
