without a decent grounding in history, civilisations and development of political theory you are in no real position to understand what is going on in our world right now and the direction that is likely to be taken
watch the kissinger video above as a start
They should teach the historiography course every history degree student goes through at A level
I dont get why they teach the basics of it at 6th form without giving it a name and signifying its importance

I still don't care historiography, even now, and I think most people would be put off by the idea of two years studying the history of writing history,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldnt advertise it lol. Just slip it in and make it 10% of the lessons
No one told me I would be studying the 124,000 different schools of thought on the Vietnam War before i signed up to the module

I am not sure what course you were on back in A-level - I think we were OCR - but I think we did a whole AS paper on sources. French Revolution.

Source evaluation is covered yeah but theres nothing in first year historiography that 16-17 yr olds couldnt also handle. Teach it earlier

History of England starts in 1066 when the Normans conquered, colonised the Island and established the monarchy.
Prior to that there was just disorganised, warring villages of hunters and gatherers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
just not true
britain stopped being a hunter gatherer society around 5,000 BCE
the Old English kingdoms of Wessex, Sussex, Mercia, etc, were well run and organised, and were raking in coin
hence the reason why the Normans valued the country so much to invade
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That the second time he's peddled this nonsense.🤦♂️
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Makes as much sense as saying American history started in 1776.

Not really. The USA didn't start until 1776.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah okay. The USA isn't America. There 2 continents that make up America.
Semantics won't change that.
Oh and was there no history in the colonies pre 1776?

Might just be me, but I have zero desire to move back into a daily schedule of one hour commuting each way, and living in a confined apartment in the centre of a busy city.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Definitely not just you. My commute would be about an hour each way give or take, and I’ve absolutely no interest in going back to it anything more than once a week.

100% it is individual choice, I like my commute, gets me in the mood for work/home, currently its only 25 minutes but I have had 1hour +.
Again individual choice, but I like being in zone 2, long since lost the romantic ideal of living in the suburbs/countryside, the isolation and cliqueness is definitely not for me.
