Finally we get to see Messi flop in the PL.
The big question is how does Catalonia now respond when the Spanish government attemps to re-take political control now that they are an independent nation?
I would say ignore/refuse to follow orders or allow direct rule from Spain until they are forced to send in troops to forcibly re-take control of the government institutions in Catalonia.
Because if they can force a heavy handed response, it bodes well for them for public PR across Europe as essentially they need European governments to face bad PR at home for allowing this to happen to force those countries acknowledge Catalonia or at the very least the need for another legal referendum to be held.

We agree.
They need a proper referendum to gain legitimacy and to gain the political upper hand. There's no chance of EU support either without all that being in place.
But with no army, or control of the police, they don't hold any trump cards. So if Rahoy doesn't play ball on the referendum, they need to force the Spanish hand and get them hauling women about by the hair like in the previous referendum. That at least will get them some sympathy support in the PR stakes. Whether it gets them what they want long term or not remains to be seen.
Madrid should have allowed a referendum. Shot themselves in the foot, Galicia and Basques next?
The EU will need to act as a broker but are they capable?

Its like London or Birmingham saying its wants to leave England... nonsense

Actually, it's more like Scotland or Wales saying the want to leave the UK. You know, the UK - or is it all really England in your eyes anyway.

Spanish constitution has long recognized Catalonia's autonomy and language so dont see why they are doing this, half the people in the region dont want it anyway
Shame we cant dump London

That little thing called the right to self-determination.
You know chapter 1, article 1 of the UN charter.
Apart from that no reason
Who said it was a crime, just get your perspective right. Your analogy is more like saying Valladolid or Salamanca wanting to leave Castilla.
Cities leaving the region of the capital as opposed to regions leaving the larger state.
Every day's a school day, eh.
They're doing it because Madrid doesn't listen to them, Catalunya pays into a system thats unfair, for example, other spanish regions that create less wealth pay nothing to Madrid yet have better social services than Catalunya who pay billions and get a fraction back in services.,

The right to self determination isnt an opinion though is it. It's the bedrock of the UN charter.
