DJ,
I think Munro was nominated yes. Not sure who else tho. Maybe dave edwards 😊
gb, anyone who scores 4 goals in one game cannot be considered crap, especially in the Championship. Many on here suggested that he was just a mediocre League 1 player. He has proved to you and others that he's good enough at this level too. Just because he didn't fit into the style of play we were playing during his time with us, suggests that whoever was in charge at the time didn't get the best out of him.
Sheffield United are doing very well since they came up from League 1. Much better than we did, so please give the guy some slack.
Malcolm Finlayson, two Scots in the hall of fame, all successful Wolves teams have a Scot, just as well we have Douglas.

Leon was woeful for Wolves in two spells. A successful stint at Sheff Utd doesn't change that. I wouldn't have him back at Molineux for a gold clock. Poor player who would no sooner be a success in NES's team than I would.

Yes tartan, you get the cigar, but only because he was the one I was alluding to in my c0ckup of a quiz question
I didn't say I'd have him back at Wolves either. My point being (which you seem to have missed) is that many on here dismissed him as a mediocre League 1 player. Well he's now doing very well at Sheffield United. Its up to the coaches/managers at the time to get the best out of players, just like Nuno is doing with some of the squad he inherited
Clarke may well have been a flop with us, but maybe, just maybe, the person in charge at the time was unable to get the best out of him.
That's all I'm saying and when a poster on here highlights his qualities, he shouldn't be lambasted by others who think they know best.
After all, who came back to Molineux and gave us the middle finger after he scored a brace.
Was it Sam Winnall Wolfie ?

I'll take my view of clarke based on having seen him play dozens of times for wolves ahead of one game which none of us watched, if that's ok WITSS. leon is 32, not 18 and just starting out. He's spent much of his career below championship level, and lots of his time in this league being unimpressive. He's done that at a variety of clubs and for lots of coaches.
Of course, in context he is better at football than 99% of the population and is not actually 'crap' as he has made a decent living at what he does. But when looked at in terms of his two spells at wolves, in my view he was rubbish.
Given yr slating of far more successful, and better wolves players wolfie, i do wonder why the defence of a marginal striker who nearly all fans i know would consider to be one of our less impressive forwards of the past 20 years. I think yr final comment provides the answer...you think that all of clarke's critics on here are really just having a go at cinci? If it helps, i thought clarke was crap before i knew any of you, and prefer to make my mind up on players by watching them not reading what others have to say about them 😊
Clarke is a bottom half champo, top half league one striker, so basically on a par with a majority of players we have had at the club in recent times prior to this season.
Leon has got 8 goals including 2 against the divisions best team. Wolfie is right, no way can that be truthfully described as crap.

I guess that depends on what "recent times" means. If it means the last 4/5 years, then I would agree. However my support for Wolves goes back further than the birth of JA606 and there are hundreds of players I rate above Clarke. I value the contributions of such players way above those of a journeyman striker with a chip on his shoulder whose record at Wolves could be written on the back of a postage stamp irrespective of which manager was "unable to get the best out of him".
Who cares if Leon Clarke scored some goals? I’m just glad he doesn’t play for us anymore. Couldn’t care less how he does elsewhere, he wasn’t good enough for where we want to be; him scoring for Sheffield Utd doesn’t change that.
The number of good games Leon has played for Wolves you could count on one hand that’s been mutilated in a chainsaw accident. So as a Wolves player he will be forever remembered as crap.
And for the majority of the 20 contracts he has had while being passed around like a flowery shirt in a charity shop he has also been crap.
Just because he has just had the best game of his career and scored 4 in a championship game doesn’t mean we take an air brush to what has gone befor and put it down to poor coaching
There are many reasons that a striker becomes a prolific goalscorer or not.
His personal playing style
His fitness level
His pace or lack of it
His commitment to the team
The supply he gets from players around him
His ability to exploit that supply
Etc
Etc
Etc
My own view on seeing Leon play, which I did several times, was that he had very limited ability, no pace and little motivation.
Another player who I think was similar was Leigh Griffiths. Both goal poachers who put very little effort into what they do but can find the back of the net when in the right place at the right time. Neither of them were successful at Wolves but have done better elsewhere but both were part of Wolves teams that at the time were not anywhere near the standard of the present one.
Leon is now playing for a very good Sheffield United side and quite frankly I think he would find it quite difficult not to score.
Would totally agree with that Gem. Although many years ago, I was a striker and had an eye for the goal. I do believe that if anyone with nous, had the fitness training and the chance they would score goals. Just because he scored 4 goals in one match does not make him a class act.
Reading about Fulham's struggles this season in an article in the Mail online today. Evidently they put their transfer policy in the hands of an American based statistics obsessive and it's all gone pear shaped and the guy has now been sacked. I know cinci has been saying he thinks Fulham will be promotion contenders this season. It's all starting to make sense now
Talking of players with Wolves connections having a good weekend, worth hunting down Lee Evans winner for Wigan yesterday. Tremendous goal

glad to read a few comments from other long time game watchers who've seen clarke over the years. I was beginning to question my own sanity and eyes.
to be clear, I've no problem with clarke and like most ex players I wish him all the best. the number of former players I really dislike are fairly limited and tend to be those who either deliberately put no effort in, tried to engineer a move, or have bad mouthed the club - the roger johnson, mcindoe types. tho in his first spell at wolves clarke did come across as sulky and disinterested at times, enough years have gone by for me to not care any more.
there's also other players out there that I think were similarly underrated and often strongly criticised or insulted by fans. looking at players like vokes, and steven ward, (or even more recently dave edwards?) there are players that have spent most of their career at a higher level than clarke, including time in the premier league, and regular appearances for their international side. would fans who were so dismissive of some of those players like to stick up for them in the same way they are for the far less talented or effective clarke?
[for the record, I wouldn't want any of the above named players in this side.]
