As much as I love Alan, he can be a bit negative at times.

Firstly, he knows what he is talking about and secondly, he is absolutely passionate about this club.

He's great in my opinion and I can translate his comments in to constructive debate, but I take your point that people not going to the games might take his rants as fact.

I'd say yes.

He's a great bloke, and a great summariser, but if you see my Stop Moaning article RE negativity from fans and surrounding the club at the moment, I can't help but think that for people not able to get to the games, youngy and strings are their first port of call, and when they're being negative, the listeners are inclined to be too.

Firstly, good post. A very interesting point. I believe that these guys (Stringer and Youngy) are so passionate about our club that their emotions and thoughts can sometimes be magnified and then put across on the air. I went to Barnsley last saturday naively thinking we we're going to come back with a comfortable 3 points. (as we all know that didn't happen) I came home slightly dissapointed with our performance, especially in the 1st half but i realised that with all the new players a point away from home really isn't that bad. I came on to JA606 to find people acting like it was the end of the world and that unless we get rid of sven we won't go up etc etc. Now i dont know how depressing/negative the commentary was at barnsley but im guessing that the posters who were all doom and gloom we're posting based on the opinions of youngy and stringer. so i can agree that when things aren't going our way it might be best to listen to what youngy says, but maybe realise things aren't allways as bad as he's describing on BBC Radio Leicester. UTF

It's always hard to tell with something like this. I see a lot of comments (just generally, not necessarily on here) saying things that amoung to: "Everyone is suggestible except me."

Are they helping to form people's opinions? To an extent, maybe. I find that Alan Young is the kind of bloke that it's easy to sit there agreeing with, pointing out things that make us go: "He's right", while the counterargument might be even more powerful but simply hasn't sprung to mind. As an example, when listening to his radio commentry I find him very believable with what he's saying, although when I returned from the Barnsley match I was surprised to hear that he'd been bad-mouthing Bamba and Vassell as I thought they'd had decent games.

I like the Radio Leicester matchday team at present; Stringer who is an enthusiastic commentator and supporter, while Young is a dour but insightful analyst. It has a good balance to it, and I'd rather that Alan Young stay opinionated - even if we disagree with him. If that means being negative at times then so be it.

Good question, and excellent thread.

On balance I agree with the Dunge. I enjoy Stringer's humour and enthusiasm and so I forgive his massive conceit; and I very much enjoy Young's genuine passion, genuine delight when we do well and genuine pain when we don't. I guess Young is a bit of an opinion-former, because he's there and he's loud. But most of us know how to make up our own minds about things.

Let's be honest guys. The commentary is enjoyable these days.

Anyone who says that Stringer is not an improvement on John Barber is insane.

And if anyone thinks that Youngy isn't better than Natty Piper (bless his attempts) I my as well give up now!

Young is the best summariser we've ever had in my opinion.

I think Nev is spot on.

When Alan first started as summariser he was a breath of fresh air. He was positive but constructively critical when necessary. He gave informed opinions from a plyer's perspective.

I'm afraid these days he's become overly negative and very quick to criticise; whether that be the manager or the players.

I find him very difficult to listen to and he is danger of turning off the genuine fans by his constant moaning.

I like them both, they both have their faults - Youngy has a bias towards certain players (and in some cases against) but I think as you say Nev he does say it like he sees it. I think he's usually quite balanced with his positivity and negativity, but tbf I haven't heard any match commentary from him this season, only pre/post match thoughts.

Stringer can want to talk more about things that aren't the football match, and he does have a tendency to say 'it's in!' when it's not. But he is entertaining and commentates with passion, he's got a good voice and demeanor for Leicester matches.

I don't know what they've been saying during matches this season but if they are somewhat negative it's probably down to their frustration at what have been far from convincing performances overall - though after the Forest match, when we did play well, they were both very quick to point out that we were robbed and that the performance was good, instead of concentrating on the fact we surrendered a 2-0 lead.

They have a duty to say it like it is and if they did anything otherwise I woudn't want them on. If they are negative at the moment because they are honest then so be it.

I can see both sides.But there for me needs to be a balance between stringies rampant enthusiasm and his shoting from the hip comments.

I enjoyed Youngy last year.

I did not like his comments about the Egyptian keeper and find his deriding of players this season has stoked the fuel of negativity.
Our results over the last four games in all comp's has been more than exceptable.

For me the fans attitude to Sven is unreal IMO. I think Sven is most honest and up front with the press and fans than ANY manager we have EVER had but the enlightened fans want to him to come on air admit his mistakes.......Good luck with that.Try that on another dour Scotsman sir Alex!!!! and see what you get.

Just a thought how many former england managers have we manage to attract to the massive club which is Leicester?
