Brum...you're right of course...but it begs the question why Lukaku wasn't the preferred choice
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's what I've always maintained Sheriff - I've always said, having scored more in a season on his own, than those three probably would have together; it was a no brainer!
Yet it always some how gets translated on this board as 'Lukaku is the dogs bollox and the next coming of Didier Drogba in his prime'!
Just another example of Mourinho not trusting a player under the age of 35!

He's basically another Lukaku, seriously flawed footballer with a decent goal record. We weren't stupid enough to give Lukaku a starting spot so hopefully we won't with Bats.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You say we weren't stupid enough to give Lukaku a start, which is fair enough if there were decent players to keep him out.
However, his competition was a way past his best Eto'o, a lethargic Demba Ba and Torres - followed by a 37 year old Drog!
Please don't try and convince me he was worse than that shambles!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You reckon Lukaku would have opened the scoring vs all the big teams bar City or scored the winner vs PSG then twice more in two high pressured title run in games? Those two weren't perfect, far from it, but i'd still choose them (the 13/14 versions) over the current Lukaku, let alone that season's version.
demba bas goal against utd was beautiful. Horribly Under utilised player. Scored most games he started.

If you feel you'd rather have them, then that's your opinion and you're more than entitled to it.
However, for my opinion, that period was the worst bunch of strikers I've seen at the club since the days when Allon, Mitchell and Aylott used to play for us!
And I did say - 'Please don't try and convince me'!

I agree with the likes of Salah and KDB, but Rom wasn't good enough and i sussed out that much on his debut vs Norwich.
Mou has made 2 pretty big decisions on Lukaku, and thankfully he made the right one with us and the wrong one at United.

Again here the point is not, 'Is he good enough', but rather was he better than the other options available to us at the time.
While he was out on loan at 1st WBA and then at Everton he consistently outscored them with inferior sides.
As I said - it's not just a question of how good Lukaku was - but how good he was in relation to other options available to us at the time!

Faie enough, the 1 thing i will challenge however is second paragraph, as Ba was doing that too
Tbh looking back im not sure why we actually signed him as he was the total opposite to the other young players we signed at the time, were we duped by his video on the Stamford Bridge tour? Which i get more and more convinced was as act as time goes on.

My main concern with Ba, was that if he didn't score, he didn't have any other major influence in the game. I'd often forget he was playing.
To justify his inclusion, given his lack of any regular meaningful influence, he needed to score every game - he didn't!
Sorry to disagree - but he didn't impress me!

You don't need to apologize, this is what places like this are about. What i meant is he was scoring goals at an impressive rate for WHU and Newcastle like Rom was doing at Albion and Everton, which is why i was never took in by his goals. Not just Ba- Benteke, Carroll, Bent, Crouch for example were also serial scorers at 7th-20th rated teams but that never translated to success when they stepped up to top four/title clubs.
I personally believe (like them) he will be back at somewhere like Everton by 2020/21, the next United manager will likely be an attacking/technical one, meaning they will sign someone new or play Martial up top, and Lukaku will have to accept super sub or leave.
I completely agree with Nick about Demba Ba.Demba Ba was not as bad as some people would have us believe and he did OK in limited starts for Chelsea.
I don't discount Costa's role in him leaving the club but as a player he is top drawer. There were games last year when he pulled us out of the mire. He also scored many winning goals, goals that gave us points or a point. He is better at holding up play then he's given credit for on here and had a fantastic understanding with Hazard. I miss him the player not the man.
