agree 100%... Don't like keepers as captains and as much as I like Hugo....Toby, Jan, Dier, Wanyama & Kane all look more like captains to me.. Bigger on field influence and quite frankly Hugo just doesn't come across as leader (seems pretty introverted)
Hugo is never captain material, but don't think you can really strip it off him while he is still the first choice keeper. bad vibes all round.
interesting that this comes up just as CCV has been recalled are the 2 linked ?
I thought it was cos CCV was doing crap?
Yeah i think CCV will be shipped in the summer.

Lloris captains his country too, so he clearly is captain material. People put too much emphasis on what happens on the pitch for a captains role. It isn't roy of the rovers. If a team needed lifting then they look to a key player a Hazard, Suarez, Kane etc. It doesn't matter if they're wearing an armband or not.
What does matter is what happens on the training ground, whether the player is respected and trusted off the pitch and the relationship the player has with the coaching staff and players. It's why Henderson is our captain.

and France are huge underachievers....
not sure Lloris being French captain is doing anything to support your argument tbh
I’m of your belief as well greatteams. A captain these days is purely an older player who epitomises the professiomal nature a club wants to adhere to

Says a lot abut Man Utd when Rooney was captain
I still can’t believe this hasn’t been done yet.
Give him what he deserves he should be on the same pay as Kane.
i think unfortunately we will let toby go as we no have sanchez and we seem to only sign defenders. Then Kane will be captain soon if he even stays that is
Yeah I don't think captains mean a great deal on the pitch. If you have other leaders on it, they're not going to stop being leaders because someone else is a captain.

I keep on saying this! One person being captain doesn’t mean the others must remain on mute and not show any sort of leadership. No different to most working environments. I lead even though I’m not the boss, that’s how it should be.
There is no way Toby should be on the same as Kane.
For me, there is no difference between Verts and Toby and so we should be careful with what we are offering.
I do not see anyone at the club performing on the same level and with the same consistency as Kane is. Certainly when Toby was fit this season I could see a drop in his performance when compared with last season and compared with Vertonghen.
If we are going to break our wage structure then we have to start with Kane first.
Toby would then come a level below that and I would think Verts would deserve near to this also.
Apparently a new deal is almost done and just a few loose ends to tie up. Its standard Levy to announce a new deal for Toby in the transfer window, rather than a quality new signing.
Agree with a lot of what's been said already.
A club captain isn't necessarily the team's best leader (which in my opinion is Kane). Poch mentions many times in his book how good his relationship with Lloris is, including often texting/Whatsapp-ing each other. He's also one of the older players in the squad and certainly someone who inspires respect from players and coaches. Lastly, Lloris recently signed a contract to keep him here for the rest of his career.
Toby is a brilliant defender but I'm not sure he's still better than Jan, who's been our best and most consistent player for the last 2 years in my opinion.
I see our squad as in the following bands:
Elite tier: Kane.
Second tier: Lloris, Jan, Toby, Eriksen, Son, Dele.
Next tier: Rose, Wanyama, Dier, Sanchez.
Squad tier: Lamela, Aurier, Trippier, Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Llorente, Vorm.
I would structure wages accordingly, and breaking the bank for Toby means we'll have to pay players from that Second Tier a lot more. And we probably should.
Dembele in the same bracket as Rose, Wanyama, Dier and Sanchez
Over the next year we will be upping our wage structure significantly imo
