We're not looking for mere competence though, are we? We're looking for excellence to lift our club higher than the majority in this league to achieve that promotion. Working hard is the prerequisite, achieving excellence is the ambition. Working hard and being competent should be givens and any failure to attain those should be the points of disappointment. Achieving excellence should be celebrated, trying to and failing should not be the trigger for booing, sighing, or even worse, silence.
666 ... wouldn't "higher than the majority" takes us literally 1 place above mid table mediocrity?
Aside from that I agree with everything you said 😉
People think competence means never making any mistakes. This is not possible in any sphere of life. The better players make relatively few mistakes. Over the course of the season our players haven’t made that many but recently the ones we have made have cost us. In industry and in my job you try to minimise the effects of human error by having failsafe systems wherever possible but it doesn’t eliminate error because you will get situations where one person has to make a quick decision or perform a physical task and naturally 100% accuracy is not achievable all of the time. So it is in sport. I saw Man City players making some mistakes the other night but I wouldnt say they were incompetent. Fans who tut and boo at any mistake are a bit daft really. If players do it repeatedly you need to try to get somebody better but I don’t think we have many in the category this season with the exception of the left-back position. If people are generally good at their job but make occasional mistakes then they are more likely to respond favourably If encouraged than lambasted.
No time to debate further however. Going to try to get to Derby.
In a game of football over 90 minutes you will see very little exceptional skill. Most of the time it is routine, bread and butter stuff. Occasionally flashes of brilliance will produce a goal but usually goals come from the defence not doing their job. The best teams do the basics right and have players who can produce that extra bit of quality that can break the deadlock. If players can't do the basics then they need to be changed.
I would say it is almost impossible for the fans not to make a collective noise of disappointment if a player makes a mistake. If they continue to make mistakes they should expect more. Every player makes errors, it is repeating the errors that is the problem. I am surprised at the easy ride Nugent has had this season with the number of great chances he has missed. I ma certain Martin would not have had such benevolent treatment.
Spart, I'm surprised you have time to post here this morning. I'd have thought you'd be togged-up with ice-axe and crampons en-route to PP?
As I said earlier Scouse, Aslan is on the move.
Definitely not going by train today.
Last three train journeys.
Went to funeral in Disley, two trains cancelled, took 4 hours to get home.
Derby Norwich game, rushed to catch train but cancelled, this meant I missed the connections even tough the next train was 10 minutes later. 3 and a half hours to get home.
Yesterday, train to Liverpool cancelled. Caught the same train back from Sheffield that I went on.
I would say out of these three the Liverpool one was justified but NRE said it was on time when I checked before setting off.
How can any company offer such awful service and still be allowed to operate?
Renationalise rail.
I’m catching the train today. Not bothering with the car.
Regarding the moaning at certain players. Martin, Forsyth and Ince have had a lot grief of Derby fans compared to other players.

Words of huge wisdom from Vidal. We should never get on a player's back except for wilful bad behaviour
Great news for iwas: I have googled and discovered we win 5-1 today.

Might be a bit of a struggle to get the same names on the score sheet though 666?

That won't bother iwas: he doesn't even read as far as the match date, the thick Spondonian tw@t.
That’ll do for me.
Mistakes in football. Take Ymann. He makes more mistakes because he plays at a tempo that his skill can’t control. It’s such a shame.
Saw the dogs were top after that weekend. Their deluded fans thinking it's their year yet again before the inevitable descent in to the relegation zone.

Similar thing could be said of Vydra but they both sometimes create something using their pace. Explain why Nugent is so profligate in front of goal though.

Notice how all the scorers (+ Hendrick) have left the club or are on loan.
Villa and Cardiff not playing today. Hope they build up a fixture backlog and then go in to a slump. We need a win today. Can't see it with the way both teams are playing though.
Good job your not in the side Spart with that attitude
I’ve spoken to a bloke this morning who does some scouting work. He’s the 1 who recommended Bryson to Derby. He’s been telling me that Derby have identified plenty of targets but been put off by wage and transfer demands. Regarding left backs. He said there’s not 1 available to try and sign that’s better than what we have.
He says there’s too many young players in the prem who are being paid too much and are happy not playing
Making a last minute decision Igor. Can’t see it personally - need to save him for next Sunday
Igor, they are hoping Vydra will be fit.
Need Vydra more today and Tuesday than next weekend
That’s down to opinion, Griff . I just can’t see them rushing him back and making matters worse...
Scouse is hoping to see you next Tuesday, Griff, which is very apt in his case.
Ta lads.
Think we will turn this lot over today.
