I see this role model thing all the time. As a parent I don't want a footballer to be my kids role model tbh.

Spitting is pretty disgusting though and I can't imagine doing it to be honest.

Worth pointing out a lot of footballers are sound.

Also worth pointing out I could no doubt go to any sector and find loads of people who knocked a girl around, drunk drove, spat on someone, what ever.

Was it in self defence? I didn't know that, to be fair. It was a while ago.

I'm talking about fans reactions really, I just find it interesting. The double standards involved depending on whether or not a player is associated with your club.

I'm sure a lot of them are OK guys too.

To be honest I don't really care what they do if they're not committing really serious crimes.

I agree with Hoody as well. A footballer shouldn't be a role model. That's the job of family and teachers etc IMO.

I watched the (ill advised phone clip) not very sensible of the dad to take it considering the daughters safety.

Why did Carragher even bother winding down the window. If he was in a bad mood he could have just driven off.

The banter such as it was was really bland and the dad actually took it quite well when the daughter informed him of the flob sitting on her lap.

Just a really stupid episode all round. I’m disgusted with Carra he’s still a representative of the club as far as I’m concerned and he ended a bad weekend for the club with a shameful act.

On the OP’s point I think most professional footballers gave up long ago caring what the fans think of their conduct which is a great pity.

And yes, in the main we are as fans total hypocrites when it comes to cheering these b@stards.

I don’t care what the players do because I stopped supporting players when I was about 12 years old.

I support Liverpool. Players come and go, I feel more attachment to some but even then they’re just players for the club I support.

Way too much tribal stupidity in football.
