Can’t handle the pressure. Same with Tennis - Murray is a winner because he doesn’t have the spineless English bottling genes running through him.
---------------------------------
Yeah, Mo Farah, Lewis Hamilton, Anthony Joshua, Chris Froome etc have the English bottling genes in them.

Interesting point you make. So is it just team sports we can't do?

Completely different expectation levels in sports that have different profile levels to football.
I wouldn’t say every single English sports person is a bottler - Botham certainly wasn’t (inconsistent at times yes but stepped up when it counted), but by en large the huge failures compared to other countries on a par with us speak for themselves

Team sports in particular seem to be a key bottling area no doubt. We certainly fair better on an individual level.

even the 'Hand of God' goal came when we were losing and looking down and out

No it didn't.

Humbly apologise, the long years have taken their toll on my memory. Sometimes I even imagine we were holding our own against Brazil when Seaman let in that Ronaldinho soft free kick. The mind can play cruel tricks. Talking of famous goalie errors, check these out for yourself... http://metro.co.uk/2016/06/28/six-times-england-goalkeepers-made-awful-mistakes-5971598/
