I think the difference between England and a lot of the other teams is that the other teams actually dominate at home.. in the recent years, England don't even do that, lost to Lanka 1-0, dawn to Pakistan 2-2 and NZ 1-1, and closely fought series with Aussies winning 3-2 and 2-1.
Based on that, lots of work ahead this summer, although I do see victory vs Pakistan easily given it's early summer. Not sure about India though.
Will be interesting to see if Ali plays in the summer. If selectio. Is based on 'horses for courses' he has got to play given his consistency in England. If it's not, then England are right to move on. Also not sure about hameed.. too slow.
I’d start by stop playing the sport. It’s a boring mess of a game. But if you needed to fix it, make it more exciting. Introduce hungry tigers at the edge of the field to attack fielders. Have a random hand grenade instead of the cricket ball at times.. I’d also reduce the time a match takes from 3588 days down to 3 hours.
Hope that helps.

Sweetie we have T20 for 3 hours for u! Ur gurl came to me and said she was mad @u 4ur sloppy seconds!
Now getting back to the topic, Yorkie good article and I have known u for some time as a good poster bro but why bring religion? For me as an Indian fan, I don’t care what religion my players are from as long as they perform good & win games for us. Life is too short to be divided and we have all have same religion of human race/humanity my frnd! 👍
Hi fact. The religion point was more a compliment to Ali's value to the team as representative of British culture. Its what I want to see more of. We need black players such as BellDrummond equally.
Was not aimed as a statement about religion, more different parts of our society representing the country.
No offence intended (and explaining this as a child of a Muslim father and Christian mother)

Hello. I ran that through google translate, but it only gave me a picture of fozzy bear. Not sure that’s what you intended.
Few points for England to address:
* The choice of Joe Root as captain is a very poor one. First, it has affected his batting negatively. Second, he is tactically inept (see Graeme Swann's criticism of his field settings to spinners and his handling of the attack during the final 32 overs of the NZ was unbelievable with the way he overbowled himself, Malan and Leach - 19 overs at the expense of his two best bowlers beggars belief. Broad had four and Anderson only one...)
*James Vince has taken eight catches from his thirteen tests but closer analysis will reveal that he has dropped at least twice that number and almost always they have been costly. As he brings little to the batting, it's a mystery why England have persisted with him this long. Is it because he "fits well into dressing room"?
I can go on but it will be too long. Last but not the least; you need KP type player ASAP who can change the game anytime on his own!

Thanks for the advice. I’ll keep that in mind, though by the way you talk I suspect the men in the bar you go to like to wear dresses and play hide the sausage rather than darts, but hey, it’s a modern world. To each their own! Peace.
Joe Root was always going to be captain though...he fits the mould
Let's see how we do in summer...for my money the team have been away far too long of late & it's all got stale
The Stokes Debacle hasn't helped, Cook needs to step up again & show why he's one of the all time batting greats
Comment deleted by Site Moderator
Let's be honest, Root is our only option and he is learning on the job. He is a very young captain however does fit the mould in many ways.
The other reality is there is nobody else. Vince is his counties captain but he's not a regular.
From those regulars you have Root Stokes Bairstow Anderson Broad Cook.
3 of those are reaching their twilight years. Cook of which is an ex captain. Stokes will never captain after the last year. That leaves Root.
The only alternative is to go for the Brierley type appointment and looking in the county games but it's hardly filled with captains good enough to play for England.
We seem to be in a transition stage similar to the football team where we lack genuine quality of players in their mid to late 20'summer (Root and Stokes aside) but have loads of promising youngsters.
By now moeen should be batting in the top 5 and 2nd spinner. He has been mismanaged as tried to make him the main spinner and bat 7 or 8. Not his game and his confidence has gone to pot and I fear we have now lost him. Probably only play in the Odis now.

I agree with Green.
Ali can play some nice attacking shots but at Test level does fall a little into bits and pieces. A better version of Samit Patel maybe.
He is best at 7 or 8 where he has the freedom to play his vast array of shots. At 5 or 6 he would get pulled apart by the second new ball with his technical flaws - Especially against pace and bounce.
Hard to see where the solutions are going to come from but as well as ability, I think there's a mental strength issue with this current side.
However I do like Malan, I think he's got some battling qualities that a lot of our batsmen lack. He's happy to do the hard yards and earn a right to play his shots once he's got himself in. He's surprised me really as I thought he was a limited overs specialist. I think he's worth preserving with after how he performed in the Ashes.
I think you're being a bit harsh on TRJ who had the game to be relatively effective in Australia. Tall bowler with nagging accuracy could have been a useful weapon against Steve Smith. We'll never know but he was seen as a big miss.
In regards to the future, there are promising youngsters who look like decent test prospects; Hameed we've alreadys seen, Clarke who you've mentioned and Lawrence could all make up the bulk of the top order in the next 1-2 years at 2, 3 and 5.
Bowling wise, a few handy quicks about and England are obviously trying to fast track the likes of Garton and Helm even though neither are used by their counties enough. Tongue looks really good at Worcester though, hopefully he'll have a season in Division 1 this year. Archer is an interesting one but he's making a big impression in T20 cricket and by the time 2022 comes about, he'll be 27 and probably a fully fledged T20 specialist. I can't see him playing for England at test level.
I do like the XI though, Hameed could be the way to go at 3 as it seems like Lancs are going to play him there with Jennings opening with the explosive Alex Davies.
No one ever seems to mention Davies for England. Had a good average last season. Also Parkinson is a better spinner than crane. Hope he comes through this season.
Davies was great last season, being a wicket keeper batsman will probably hinder him but it's interesting that Lancs are looking to retain him at the top of the order.
Northeast has moved to Hampshire so he'll be worth keeping an eye on as well.
As many posters have said, home advantage is massive these days. England will probably beat Pakistan & India comfortably and be world beaters again ... until they flop on their next tour ... and repeat.
Only solution at the moment is to give the away team option to bat / bowl first to level things out a bit.
Your now seeing why England can't produce that mystery spinner or fast bowler to succeed in India or Australia. A first round of county fixtures with teams being skittled out for low scores in damp conditions. Lancashire gone in with 4 medium pacers and no spinner despite having parry, kerrigan, Parkinson ,Lilley as spin bowlers in the squad.
Well Yorkshire vs Essex was a complete wash out. Match drawn after 4 days of no play
Hampshire look well set to beat Worcestershire and then there was a crazy morning session between Notts and Lancs. Lancs resumed their second innings on 58/3, trailing by 6 runs only to be bowled all out for 73. Notts then lost 4 wickets whilst chasing 10 for the victory. 25 runs and 14 wickets to end the game in about an hour and a half. I'm sure there will be questions about the pitch but from what I read, it sounds like a lot of silly shots were played.
