There might have been a few high scores for Mafia 3 delboy, which may have given it a temporary bump. but you don't keep a Meta of 95 after 85 reviews unless you have something special.
Think about that, 85 reviews from critics and it hasn't dropped below 95, it is getting universal praise across the board.
It seems Sony have something special with God of War.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Amiga stop taking it so personally.... at no point have I said you are wrong... all I am saying is that I dont take pre-reviews word as say so as they have nothing to judged on. I gave you an example, do you not find it strange that EVERY not just a few but every single review from before Mafia 3's release has been taken down.
If there are no negative scores to bring it down then it wont come down. I also simply dont believe that every single person who has reviewed it thinks its awesome. Not one person thought it was just ok (and every game has its detractors, no matter how good a game is some people will find it poor or average or simply not to their taste. This doesnt have one? not a single one?
I think im perfectly right in saying that the game shouldnt be judged until it is released. For example (this is not tied to God of War but just an example)
Battlefield 4, amazing game, one of the best if not the best shooter IMO for the PS4....when released was broken for about 2/3 months nearly after release. Game was excellent but it didnt work, god knows how many glitches, crashes and awful party settings and servers. Game turned out in the end awesome but it was broken when it was released, no ifs, no buts .... Im sure in the week before hand it ran perfect, played great but upon release it couldnt handle it and crashed every other match (assuming you could get in one after waiting 30 mins trying to join your mates!!)
To some folk £50 is a lot of money to throw into a pre-order game that they have been let down by people or critics telling everyone how good it is before its been released to the public.
Assasins creed was another one.... pre reviews were good for one of the releases (think it was origins) however on release it crashed all the time, Ubisoft servers were fooked, and the glitches with graphics (especially on PC) were horrendous. I could spend all day giving examples of things that are not what they seem upon release.
As I said I am not running God of War down, and I hope its great, why wouldnt I want another great game. But just wait til its out before telling everyone what a great game it is or is going to be.
Delboy I don't take any of this discussion personally, I respect what you are saying, I just disagree with you.
You do not hit 95 on meta after 85 reviews without having something special, it is what critically acclaimed means, and critics are to a man impressed.
You have your doubts fine, but in my experience a game released for review over a week early, shows the confidence Sony has in the game, and the reviewers agree.

I dont have "doubts" as such I just dont listen to anything until its released. Battlefield 3 had similar reviews, and im sure they were prob right given what they were playing was as good as they said (it had prob an average of around 95 too before release. However the reviews on pre release, post release and then 4 months down the line would have all been very very different. It played fine before release, was broken on release and then 4 months down the line was amazing.
No one knows what the game will play like upon release ..... NO -ONE regardless as to what is said before release.
God of War is a single player game, (not online) the game has been played from start to finish by reviewers, the game has been polished to a shine.
I'm confident what the reviewers are saying is what we will get.

It was just one example of many... just like assasins creed....
I have given loads of different examples of things not working the way they should on release compared to pre-release and post release.
Nevermind Amiga, what you say go's .... no other opinions allowed it seems. You do not know what it will be like on release, nobody does, anyone who says otherwise is lying.

I personally thought Battlefield 3 was cack and a step down from the previous one.
Delboy, it's my opinion, if I'm proved wrong I'll say it, but I have reasons to believe what I believe, I don't just make it up.

you hold no valid opinion on how the game will be upon release. No one will thats a fact.
I will be looking to buy the game no doubt down the line when it drops in value.
Fair enough delboy.I trust the reviews enough to pre order, I'll let you know what I think.
Delboy this is the final game, this isn't preview or pre release. This is the retail game if you know the right people you can buy it now (just check youtube!)
Also as Amiga pointed out this is sp and won't be affected by online, or pc bugs. Yes you are correct some things don't work as they should but almost all of them are related to pc, and not very often to console exclusives

yeah at no point have I said you are wrong, just that to never be reliant on pre release reviews.
The one thing I would say you are wrong with is pre-order....tsk tsk tsk call yourself a hardcore gamer!! hahaha...just kidding.
Pre_orders are evil though and a major problem within our community.
I don't pre order lightly delboy, I have much more faith than you in the reviews, I know we have been over this but 95 on Meta pretty much guarantees a top notch game.
Although I accept you don't see it that way.
Sorry amiga the pre order bit was a separate point.
Nobody shld pre order.. I understand why people pre order to make sure you get it on release day but sadly now a lot of developers will release a game early once the hit their targets, which is one of the main reasons we get buggy release date games that need patches. Ubisoft were very bad for this. if a game isn't ready they will release it anyway rather than delay it, if the pre order sales are high enough to cover costs.
I ain't in anyway relating this point to God of war as this very rarely applies to standalone games for Xbox and ps4. But games like gta and assassins creeds are big examples of this games released before they were ready cos the pre order sales were high enough.
It's important people know how much pre ordering games can hurt the gaming community.
I actually agree with that delboy, games are expensive to make, and studios will have strict guidelines to meet, which can mean games release in all sorts of states of play.
I know this is not going to go down well, but MS are as bad as anyone, and seem happy to push anything as long it might make them money, Sea of Thieves a perfect example (although I think they were holding back content so they could sell it)
That I would say used to be true of Sony, but I think they have learned, or are just maybe in a better position to allow developers the time they want and need to release a truly polished and high quality game.
I think God of War is a perfect example of this, so I am not worried.
There is also another game Dreams that I have been looking forward to, announced early in the PS4's life little has been seen, Sony obviously see it as something special and are willing to fund it to completion, whenever that may be.
One last thought, Online is not an easy thing to do, and it is that part that many games fall over, and can only be truly tested on release.
Republik of Mancunia : So was it good or no?
Not out till tomorrow Manc, I'll try and play through it as fast as I can, so will let you know what I think in a few days.
But 95 on Meta points to something very special.

24 reviews so far on Amazon. All 5!!!!!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Reviews are meaningless though. Remember MGSV? Besides, with games it's more interested to form your own opinion on gamefootage and understanding what you can expect instead of ratings made by others. In this case I won't be buying the game, regardless of what rating it gets. My point is to figure out on your own if the game is for you.
