I think the competition will come from United and Liverpool. I think both lack a rounded squad, Liverpool in particular having great attacking options, dross is midfield and, despite VVD, a defence liable to collapse. They do have a very smart manager. United on the other hand have Jose, and a history of iffy recruitment.
A lot depends on signings, and it is worth remembering that City swept the division away this year, mostly with only one or no fit forwards. Imagine what we could do with more attacking options?

And only one fully fit fist choice full back.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well yes, we have consistently not won every game and dropped points in some games. Most teams have done that.
However when we started resting players for the CL the PL form wasn't consistent with what it had been before we started resting players.
I know this to be true but if you can be bothered all you have to do is take our average points total over the previous games to resting players for the CL/resting players after the CL games and compare it to our average points total after we started resting players for the CL/after the CL games. You will then see the difference.
For example we drew with Everton when resting players for City. Drew with West Brom when resting players for Roma. Drew with Stoke when resting players after Roma.
Of course this is all part and parcel of managing the squad when you get into the later stages and are still in European competition and not an excuse but it's certainly had an effect and not been consistent with the rest of the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps “consistent” wasn’t the best word to make my point. I meant consistent as in you have consistently dropped points against similar lower table sides throughout the season regardless of Euoropean commitments.
Up until last week, we had the best points return of 2018. I don't think people realise just how much VVD has improved us.
With Keita incoming and possibly Fekir, we'll be much stronger and I fancy us for top 3.
I know the title is very rarely defended but this City team look too formidable to collapse after one season.
If we do retain it the difference will be Guardiola - his obsessive drive and demands won’t accept the drop in standards we’ve seen after winning the title in the past. That comes at a price though, in that we’ll only get another 2 or 3 seasons out of him.
“With Keita incoming and possibly Fekir, we'll be much stronger and I fancy us for top 3.”
You should be finishing at least 2nd, and a stronger challenge for the title. I don’t think United or Arsenal will be able to get everything they need in one window to challenge. Chelsea if they can keep Hazard, possibly.

They did but the only real reservations i have about us successfully defending it is Peps obstinacy with regards to changing his philosophy,it comes across as a bit of a lack of plan B but i dont think that in the same way that was clearly the issue with Pellegrini,i just dont think hes prepared to change to a defensive mode which would seem the obvious course of action playing the likes of liverpool, but he would rather his team learn how to cope with the attacking press and find a way in his system to counter it

And I think it's something more than just Guardiola, though he is the major piece. The whole philosophy of the club seems to project team and single purpose. The illumination of the players around the world in a place that is special to each individual, is one example of the things that are bringing the collective together to become such a force.
I hope, because of the youth of the players and the dynasty he could bring, Pep decides to last more than the next three seasons and goes on for decades. Others have done it. And if it comes at the price of Liverpool beating us a couple of times, then so be it - if they were that good they'd have done it over 38 matches with the other teams.

Yeah 3 big decisions which massively swung the momentum Liverpool’s way each time. Things could have been very different, we may still have lost, but can’t downplay the effect they had on the tie.
As for him staying much longer than a few more seasons Ashton I just can’t see it. His style is so dynamic and absorbing I don’t think anyone could physically maintain that sort of intensity over a decade or more.

You're almost certainly right about Pep. However, if a lineage of coaching can be implemented with all the things he's brought, then maybe we could have decades of success like some.
That’s what I’m sure they’ll be hoping to do with the coaches. And fortunately it’s starting to look like we do have the correct people in place above Pep to oversee that consistency. Will be interesting when he does move though, I don’t think there are a plethora of top class progressive coaches out there to choose from at the moment. Fortunately we can stick a pin in that though and just enjoy the ride until the time comes.
