It was controlling the threats of Mitrovic and Sessegnon which won us the game. Davies must have a few bruises from his clashes with Mitrovic. He is a powerful guy, strongest footballer I have seen in over 50 years of watching the game.
The assistant referee gave us offside several times, once when Jerome was well on side with a clear run at goal. Fulham might think they were unlucky because of their control of midfield but I think we were unlucky with several decisions and could have won by more.
Good comment Spart. I couldn't fine the words but felt the same. We played well against a very tough side.
Shearer and Cantona had immense physical strength. From close to the pitch on the old Pop Side you really got a sense of it. Mitrovic seems similar in that respect. Davies did sensationally well against him I thought.
When we needed a Brucie Bonus it was last night and cometh the hour cometh the man. What a cross it was, he had all the time in the world and with the world watching he whipped it with pace and pin point accuracy to Jerome’s head. Ghat will live long in my memory.
Our players are peaking at the right time.
Yes Vidal, it looked a very unequal match, the wiry Davies against the bulk of Mitrovic but to Davies's credit he stuck close, prevented Mitrovic from turning, and allowed other players to intercept the lay offs. Think Gary learned from our previous game not to allow Mitrovic a clear shot at goal.
Referring to your comment on Hanson from the other thread Vidal, I to thought it was a strange decision to bring on a very inexperienced player in such a key game, particularly as he hasn't been used all season (and with Ledley available).
Ledley is too slow to defend our right side.

He is young and very strong. Maybe that's why he was brought on?

Especially if he gave you a flying kick.
Know what you mean Scouse but we did exactly the same against Cardiff. Rowett said he wanted Hanson's youthful energy. In both matches Hanson played wide rather than centrally for the brief time he was on which is not a position that Ledley would excel in.
Didn't realise Hanson was 6'3" either!
Yoof & height, its the future.

He lies about his height.
I think a for Anya is deserved. Nearly had a headed goal but pace at that stage of the game gives another dimension.
Hope it was of interest Heb. I meant to mention Anya. he had a good cameo performance and I think he will play on Monday. Maybe as a sub when legs are tired. Or maybe a start with Vydra coming on after an hour. Two Scots in play - Anya and Forsyth.
Some decisions for Rowett to make for the second leg. Both matches were always likely to be high intensity and a big ask for players in the more physically demanding areas to play at that level for all of both games. For the second leg we may need subs to replace tired legs but depending on how it all goes we also may need impact subs.
You would think the back three, Wisdom and the midfield two will start the same. Hopefully BJ and Huddz can keep it going because they are crucial to our success. Jerome had a bit of a rest last night so he will be OK. Lawrence and Weimann are fit lads.
McAnya in for Vydra for me with Weimann moving inside. He will do more there than Vydra to restrict their centre backs and McDonald bringing the ball forward. Anya's natural position is a wing back so provided he is fully fit he should be able to do as good a job there as Weimann did last night. As a sub Vydra has shown he can be lethal when space opens up. If it's nil-nil on the night with twenty to go he can come on for the exhausted Weimann and score the decisive goal that puts us two up overall. If it's all hands to the pump late on Ledley comes on and we go 3-5-1-1, sacrificing the exhausted Lawrence for an extra midfielder. The third sub is Nuge for the exhausted Jerome or Hanson for the exhausted McAnya. If it all goes wrong and we are behind on the night we have Vydra, Palmer and Nugent as attacking subs so we sacrifice one of the centre backs, BJ and whoever else is most exhausted and do it gung ho style.
Fulham will have tired legs as well. Ayite and Sessegnon were both spent in the second half.
Most important thing to do on Monday is not concede early thus giving Fulham that adrenalin rush. An early goal from us though would be perfect.
I can't see Hanson as being 6ft 3 but if he is he's a stocky lad and Avery tough physical opponent.
