Macia to West Ham

Surely its a Buy One Get one Free and they have to take Rudkin as well.

As long as he'd be happy with a chief scout role rather than a DOF one, bring back the Walsh.

posted on 21/5/18

Did this Macia actually recommend anyone that was signed or any good?

posted on 22/5/18

Exactly, what did he actually do?

The last two or three transfer windows have been under his watch, obviously with growing influence as they've gone and he and his team will have specifically identified new players. On the face of it, it seems to me that he's done a decent job, albeit a rather Iberian-heavy one. But if he wants to leave then I see little point in keeping an unhappy chief scout. Players can be talked around; management is another matter.

Ahhhhh Dunge. Pretty much nailed it.

But who did his team identify

posted on 22/5/18

Jakupovic, Maguire, Dragovic, Silva, Iborra, Iheanacho, Diabate, Perreira, possibly Ndidi. I expect several others that we didn't sign for whatever reason, such as Sigurdsson. It may be that some of those were on the radar before he arrived as we don't know exactly what's going on behind the scenes.

I sometimes feel that people make the facts fit the prevailing narrative. That is everything the new recruitment team has done is rubbish, that Rudkin is rubbish and that everything the old team (led by Steve Walsh) did was great. I really don’t know the facts behind who leads whom on these transfer targets and discussions.

What I do know is that when Steve Walsh was here we did an amazing job in identifying the players we needed and this led us to winning the league (wasn’t Rudkin here then too?). However, his last transfer window was the summer of 2016 (the players must surely have been identified by his regime) and we brought in: Hernandez, Slimani, Musa, Mendy, Zieler and Kaputska for the best part of £70m.

Now, under Macia (presumably?) we’ve brought in: Maguire, Jakupovic, Dragovic (loan), Iborra, Silva, Ndidi (possibly?), Iheanacho and Diabate. A mix bag, not in the same league yet as Mahrez, Vardy and co., but certainly better than the summer of 2016.

Who takes credit and who takes blame?

Who takes credit and who takes blame?

You’ve already answered this. Walsh takes all the credit and Rudkin takes all the blame.

Keep up.

I give you Iborra and maybe Dragovic but the others neah, Diabate was put forward by the managers son, Perreira ex Puel player, the two guys from Hull were just decent want away relegated players.

I think there’s a clear difference between objectives for both teams, finding the likes of Mahrez and Kante will be nigh on impossible now, today’s objectives are to find players suitable for an established Premier League Team with a tight nit squad.

Both are equally as hard and it seems as though Walsh struggled at Everton with second scenario himself.

I just love the way some people know all the facts about what goes on behind the scenes at my football club. Is there a circular sent out or an email by subscription maybe, that details who's responsible for which decision, who says what to who and what everybody to do with the club's thoughts are on everything from buying players to Brexit?! If there Is, could someone show me where I can sign up for it as I'd like to be as well informed as some on here too please. On second thoughts, there'd then be no need for a site that allows all and sundry to air their opinions, guesses and suppositions with such certainty and authority whilst likely sporting big shoes and big red noses, as this site does. Long live JA606 and it's Ilk!
And stuff the world cup... bring on next season! 😂👍

TB - I would suggest Walsh struggled to adapt quickly here as well.

After our unexpected title win we were suddenly fishing in a more expensive pond. The brief had changed from “build sustainably” to “capitalise”. I think we can all agree our first window was poor, possibly because we simply hadn’t enough time to adapt and adjust our scouting network.

Now we have and I’d say we’re getting it more right again. Ndidi & Maguire stand out signings. Maybe it was time, Macia, or luck. Who knows.

Let’s not forget we are still bringing in players for the dev squad and Diabate looks to be another gem of a find!!

Can Walsh continue this good work if Macia goes. As Dunge says, as a chief scout I’d say yes.

What we do know is that still gives us Dudkin to blame for anything that goes badly wrong!

Trying to work out whether or not that's a typo...

Walshy has an outstanding record in the past, but that isn't a guarantee of future success, particularly given our different set up with Puel in charge.

A big advantage is he knows the club inside out so should slot in well. Would he want to take a step down though to a club away from the family roots? Only he can answer that.

The owners have shown they can make pragmatic choices on re-employing staff, even when things haven't previously ended well, so it might happen.

Normally I'm in the camp of don't look back, but returning management team members have done ok before haven't they?

This of course is all supposition on the basis that Macia may actually want away!

It’s the most apt typo I’ve ever made Dunge 😂

Someone mentioned it earlier but scouting players for top half of Prem is a completely different animal to the lower half and the championship. Walsh proved himself at the lower level but the higher level I am not so sure.

Miami - that's a bit harsh. From what I've seen Blackstarr is a concerned supporter and is surely entitled to express his concerns on this platform.. Disagree with him if you like but comments such as yours don't help. We all, surely, want our team to do well - don't we?

It's not about BS's comments, and no one has disputed his obvious support for our team, it's just his holier than thou attitude and refusal to accept anyone else's opinion. BS KNOWS everything and in his mind everyone else knows nothing! I for one am tired of his negative attitude.
At the start of last season I personally would have settled for a top half finish. After a handful of games I would have settled for a comfortable avoidance of a relegation battle. I was as disappointed as everyone else that we put ourselves in a position to gain European qualification then failed to capitalise but could see that we employed a manager with a remit to change the way we play football in a fashion that Ranieri tried to and failed. Sadly, with Vardy now getting on in football terms, we could not rely on him to carry us through in the way we played in our greatest season ever, for much longer and the likelihood of replacing him with like for like would be impossible no matter who our chief scout may be. So I settled for the reasoning that we are a team in transition and the outcome of that would never have been evident till at least after the transfer window. Calling for the managers head midway through the transition that he was employed to oversee was probably a knee-jerk reaction as we have rarely had a team that could play in possession game and break down those teams that would park the bus. I know it may be considered optimistic by many (BS) but I want to see what Puel can achieve with the players that we get in over the summer. I reserve my judgement till Christmas and keep everything crossed till then, as I have every time we've kicked off for the last 45 years!

I think that’s a perfectly reasonable stance Trueblufox, and part of me is interested to see how Puel would do after a summer transfer window to bring in his players.

My big concern though is what I saw in the second half of the season is a lot of evidence that it could be very unsuccessful.

I obviously hope you’re right and I’m wrong!

Puel's started well in regards to recruitment, Pereira by all accounts is highly rated amongst the best right backs in Europe, quite a coup.

Lets see what else he can pull off.

And hopefully overcome our biggest
Problem of resent seasons
Getting the transfer over the line
Especially if it's something silly like the club looking for an extra million or the player wanting am extra £5k a week,

Thanks gally. What’s been said on here by Miami and TB Fox is massively unfair. I have strong opinions and yes at times have been overly aggressive and a bit know it all but I’ve also listened to plenty of counter arguments and respect people like Mersey, yourself and Dunge.

Me and Foxello are on completely different pages when it comes to Puel for eg but I love his posts and thinks he articulates his points well.

Miami and TB Fox basically keep following me around on this board trying to make the same point over and again. It’s a bit weird if I’m honest
