Funny thing is it's probably the United fans like Wahl/Erik that has put us above them in this particular table

Agreed that we are on the right track. Hate is the companion of love and how the haters would love to be us is blatantly apparent.

yeah agreed....Utd are the team to beat here

with Pool it's begrudging admiration (of late)

with $puds it's generally pity

We have never been popular with the fans of other clubs and I wouldn't have it any other way.

As a gooner I'm, glad that you've also pointed out how awful Spurs are as well. Thanks for that

I assumed you were a Spurs fan as you don't declare your team and 3 of your last 5 articles are on their board.

I won't even bother going into Arsenals rapsheet as a club though, will be here till Christmas.

Obviously reading isn't your strong point. I state in my intro that I'm a Gooner. And as for our rapsheet, Arsenal as a club have traditionally been supported by a mix of races and have rarely been associated with either racist or violent support.

Yours however, racially abused Paul Canoville when he played for you and had electric fences installed to stop your fans attacking the away end.

Stay classy

Did we really have electric fences?

And I also saw Paul Canoville getting abused at Highbury, monkey noises etc...

That's a lie and you know it. Arsenal had several black players at that time, Paul Davis, Raphael Meade, Chris Whyte, Viv Anderson and none of them were ever abused. And yes Chelsea did have electric fences for a period in the early 80s. Look it up.

Chelsea's young support were also targeted by far right groups like the National Front at that time due to their largely white crowd as a potential recruitment area and leaflets were handed out.

By the way, I wasn't a regular at SB but was told this by Tommy Langley who is an ex player of yours and is also a distant relative of mine.

Well if reducing your own players to tears passes for classy over at Highbury, I'll stick with what we have Thanks!

The electric fence was installed (but never used) as a means to combat hooliganism that was rife at the time and we had a bad reputation but no team was innocent back then.

Also football grounds around the country were targeted by far right organisations, I used to see them all over the country.

Chelsea has always been multi cultural as well, Summer and Brummie can both tell you I have a healthy tan that never fades. Sure I've met some less savoury folk in my time at Chelsea but received far more abuse growing up at school than football (including other fans).

Hate us by all but don't pretend to know us, you never have and you never will due to the hate within you, bigotry does that to people.

You don't know what you're talking about, Arsenal Skinheads regularly used to infiltrate and take the Shed in the late sixties and early seventies. They were one of the most violent mobs in London at that time. They actually took the Shed about 4 times during that period.

Also there never was an Electric fence "Period" of the early eighties. The truth is that Bates installed an Electric low-voltage fence around about 1985 but Ken Livingstone's GLC never gave him permission to ever turn the thing on and he had to take it down again soon after. It was obvious that he was never gna be allowed to do something like that.

Fair enough. It would be daft to pretend that any large mainly working class crowd wouldn't have an element of hooliganism within it. however, Arsenal don't have the reputation for violence and racism that the likes of Chelsea and Millwall do and Leeds for example up north.

Here's 'one of your own' saying pretty much the same thing about Chelsea and the 1980s

http://www.spiked-online.com/newsite/article/a-trip-down-chelseas-hooligan-lane/16708#.W2FYfKDTU0M

By the way, I don't go to away games any more but I'm sure your crowd is different now. But the original post concerned why other fans don't like you and Chelsea's unsavoury past is one of those reasons.

I take your point about the perception with Club's like Chelsea, Leeds etc. but just to add some balance, some of the most high profile, much admired, followed and extremely relevant (leaders or top boys if you like) came from ethnic backgrounds and were (and still are) universally known and highly respected amongst ALL Chelsea fans. Slang names to protect identities for them are Kojak (god rest his soul), Babsy, Black Jimmy, Black Willie, Braith, Del and Panther.

I often used to go with my West Indian school mate and we had no problems with other supporters. He often would say hello to and converse with the likes of Hickey etc. and JFDI has already explained his experiences on here earlier.
