I think the bonuses protect the club moreso than the player. It's a win/win.
Spoke today on Talksport the kind of contracts, agents get their players players.

Fackin hell. Went for a spot of lunch. Thought there'd be some intelligent convo on show. All I come back to is Serial and the Blobb squabbling
I assume that having bonuses in there allows the club to pay slightly less as a basic fee, yes?

This would have been the theory when it was put in place, but the reality is players now earn such high basics, the bonus' aren't that relevant.
I know a few players in league football, and their bonus' make up less than 10% of their income.
Signing on fees are usually the big winner.
I've known signing on fees as high as 10% of a sale btw, that's on £5m transfers.
Didn't it always used to be a standard 10% signing on fee if you hadn't put in a transfer request? Might be an old terraces tale that.
What’s the difference between goal bonus, appearance bonus or a car salesman getting commission on top of they’re salary?
Basic salary is paid to the player for bothering to turn up to training every day.
Which is why Antony Martial found himself out of pocket the other week.

They're is no difference
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But they're salary should enough?
It’s incentive though isn’t it?
Firmino was on about £60k a week last season but he was on something like £10k a goal until he got 10, then it was double till 15.
By the time he hit 15 goals he was getting something like £60k a goal apparently!
Remember some years ago West Ham signed a striker on 40K a week and I read he was on 5K a goal bonus , I thought if he’s a striker isn’t his job to score and that’s why he’s on 40 grand .
"loyalty bonus" for staying for 1 year? Wow.

Was John Hartson I think.
Thought his goal bonus was more than that, around £20k per goal.
Might actually have been at Wimbledon.
