Think we had the most possession ever also.
Newcastle had like 16% posession so hardly a surprise, barely even noteworthy.

Or you could look at it as Jorginho's ball retention being a key reason why they had so little.

Most matches are played on Saturday so we don't know how significant this record is.
Good player and plays to go forward not a sideway player
So many players take easy way out

That's disappointing...but rules are rules I guess
Most of his passing was useless on Sunday, just sideways.
Jorginho passes with purpose, if he passes sideways it's to shift a player to create space, He always looks for the forward pass unless he's facing his own goal with an opposition player on his shoulder.
Yes looks like he competed most forward passes ever too
I thought he was quite disappointing against Newcastle though - as impressive a stat this may be. He rarely sped up the tempo in the game which was, in my opinion, a big part of reason why you struggled to create chances for such a large portion of the game.

i thought we actually played with quite a quick tempo and the quick passing was good. Just newcastle never came out their third. Much quicker than we have played in the past anyway.
First half was terrible vs Newcastle.
Lack of width is evident when Hazard and Pedro start, both just cut in all the time.
Azpi reluctant to make overlapping runs, probably because he knows we will be exposed at the back on the counter.
Such a quality player, ideal for the manager's philosophy. It's not just the number of passes, you watch his movement/how aggressive he is and it dictates the game completely. His control on the ball so high up the pitch allows the D-line to advance and it enables the entire team's press - allows us to pin the opposition.
Watching him leaves me frustrated when I see fans who used to defend Mikel. The complete lack of Mikel doing any of that is the reason for so long we (a) couldn't dictate games, (b) couldn't build attacks quickly, and (c) couldn't press teams effectively.
Kante was the better piece of business, but Jorginho's our most important signing in a very long time.

Great comment.
Jorgino was nicking the ball near enough on the edge of the box, was a fantastic performance. Spreading the play and playing intricate passes. Newcastle made it tough but had we a striker that could occupy or stretch the back 4 we would have won even more comfotably.

How could Morata possibly stretch their back 5 when they were camped in their own box for most of the game.
Cannot blame his vs Newcastle, he barely got any service as there was no width provided by either the wingers or Azpi and the constant sideways passing. To be fair to Alonso, at least he makes the effort to go up and down.
How could Morata possibly stretch their back 5 when they were camped in their own box for most of the game.
kovacic, pedro and hazard were. he just needed to make sharp movements like aguero/jesus/firmino or most strikers do.
Your blaming morata for newcastle sitting deep yet having a go at jorgino who was much more impressive.
Azpi was swinging round the back more than alonso imo aswell. Obviously watched different games.
Kovacic, Hazard and Pedro did not stretch their defence, they played in front of them.
Firmino does not stretch defences, that comes from the pace of Mane and Salah.
Jorginho was not impressive, he passed the ball around with no pressure.
Azpi was reluctant in the first half, improved in the second half.
You cannot blame Morata, he had nothing to feed off.
We only scored due to Alonso making an overlapping run but it was a fortunate penalty.
Firmino does not stretch defences, that comes from the pace of Mane and Salah. jesus christ
Jorginho was not impressive, he passed the ball around with no pressure.
Like I say, must have watched different games. Everyone else through Jorgino had a good game.
Very impressive performance to me, hard to break down and played a good tempo imo. Done the best we could in that scenario.
Heres a few ratings:
The mail:
Jorginho 7, Kovacic 7 (Barkley 79, 5); Pedro 6 (Willian 69, 6), Morata 5.5 (Giroud 65, 7), Hazard 8
The mirror:
Morata 4
Absolutely hopeless. Even unwittingly blocked Azpilicueta’s goal bound shot.
Jorginho 7
Everything goes through him in midfield, very good distribution. Class.
West London Sport:
Jorginho: 8
Patrolled and controlled the breadth and depth of the pitch, always assured and always probing and looking to pass forward as a first option. Effortlessly brilliant and a pleasure to watch.
Alvaro Morata: 6
Morata held the ball up well enough but did not get as involved as he could have done, failing to show for possession on a couple of occasions when his winger cut inside and needed an out-ball. Rarely squandered possession and almost got on the end of a teasing Azpilicueta cross shortly before he came off.
I rate him and he’s had a good start but I dunno I get tired of always seeing a stat like this on my twitter, all stats need context behind it and this (imo) is one of the most ambiguous you can get. And it also annoys me because if you watch his games so far with us he actually has a subtle problem with poor losses of possession, not with passing but when getting pressed on the ball, he doesn’t shield the ball well as maybe more experienced ‘registas’ (sorry Sherriff) and may have to get used to it with all the high pressing sides in PL.
