Will be interesting to see if Morata improves after settling in for a season
Giroud was a good signing imo
Only time will tell
Although morata has only scored one so far this seaaon, I think there are definitely signs of improvement, more to grips with the physicality, he's never going to be Costa but I was glad to see him getting in the faces abit yesterday. Goals wise I think it'll be about the same as last season from him. Giroud has impressed me as much as anyone since last Jan, strong, great link up and some important goals off the bench. I think he deserves to start in the cups as much as possible
Morata is the BTEC Torres and Ba was better than Pele.
Morata was in an impressive form at the start of last season, then he got injured, since coming back from injury he has been pathetic. It's nearly a year now, and no signs of improvement. What do you do ? drop him ? Our other option is to play Giroud who is not prolific at scoring goal, but then again he seems to offer more of threat than Morata atm.
Another alternative is to play Pedro (not Hazard) as false 9, with Willan and Hazard on either side. Pedro is very good at playing off the defenders shoulders, and in most cases he times his run to perfection. He's played as a false 9 before and was successful whilst at Barca.
If Morata serves the same shiiit this season again, then the club should cut their losses, and scout a good reliable striker that would suit Sarri's style.
Ironically we broke our transfers record on Torres and Morata , and both turned out to be awful. Ba was a useful striker and would probably score more than both our current strikers atm (time travelling permitted).
Agree with the above
Morata doesn't look like improving and has been poor all season so far. Doesn't bode well.
I actually fancy Pedro to be our top scorer this season
Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place!
Good job it was Torres & Ba and Morata & Giroud.
If it had been Ba and Morata, I think I'd have been on the Samaritans hotline by now!

I still can't believe it Biggish, the old saying 'Once bitten, Twice shy' obviously doesn't apply at our club!
Personally I'd have given Morata another month to prove himself and if he didn't rise to the challenge, given Tammy the opportunity to compete with Giroud instead.
But unfortunately due to the Chelsea way of handling our young players we've now robbed ourselves of that option.
Morata could have been held for the Europa and League cup games!
We can change that phrase to "Twice beaten, Thrice........... beaten again"

False 9 with Giroud supersub ftw.
False 9 - not for me thank you. All you are effectively doing is playing an usuitable player up front because you have no other option.
I've not seen it work for us to any degree of success yet.

Often means we play too narrow too as there is no one to hit crosses to from the flanks

The first 18 months it was fine, we won every game we played averaging 3 goals pg using it and Pedro, Hazard and Willy were interchanging and it was a joy to watch and causing opposition all sorts of problems. It would look even better under Sarri.
It was looking rancid at the back end of last season because Conte decided to pay homage to Tony Pulis for his last 5 months. It would look totally different under MS in my opinion, infact he's already got form with Mertens.
The first 18 months it was fine?
--------------------------------------------
Sorry you've lost me - I don't recall us playing that system for any length of time.
We've been using Morata and Giroud last season and this and Costa previously.
When did we use a FN9 for 18 months?
Mourinho tried it with Hazard a few times and it was a flop, can't recall Conte using it!

Conte played it about 4 or 5 times in his first season Brummie when Costa was out injured or suspended. For the first three games we did score 3 goals. But that was playing counter attacks with loads of space behind the back line. Now we are a team that dominates possession I think it will just make us too narrow. We are already a bit narrow as it is

Off the top of my head Bournemouth and Leicester in the title winning season, Qarabag Huddersfield and Saints last season, 14 goals scored 1 conceded. The first time we lost with that formation was arsenal away and even then we were ripping them apart until Willian was forced off.
In general i ain't a fan of it either but Hazard Pedro and Willian + an attack based system(which contary to popular belief Conte had one for 18 months) and it works well, imo.

But we never played it for an extended period Biggish, which to me was what that comment implied - apologies if I've misinterpreted it.
Small sample sizes granted i forgot to make that clear.
The biggest failing of it was that game at OT - sort of put me off it for life!
