Rule was brought in to avoid a third game but that doesnt happen now due to penalty shoot-outs - SCRAP IT
I honestly don't think it makes a difference whatsoever and changing it or keeping it will make no change.

It does though - in several ways including the example from 'the garden of eden' above where you get eliminated despite never losing
I mean obviously how teams progresses changes; but I don’t think we will see much difference in how teams approach the games.
Before if a team lost 2-1 away they still looked to win at home with the other team playing for a draw. Now the same thing happens.
If a team initially loses 1-0 away - on the return leg under current rules they have to be super cautious of not conceding because it means they need to score 3 to progress.
Without away goals in place they can go simply go after any winning scoreline to avoid getting eliminate.
Game plans will change. So in my head anyway - it makes sense for it to be judged on aggregate scoreline and if it's level pegging then it goes to penalties.

Yeah I mean the scenarios change, which I know. Yet the point is gameplans don't really change just the goalposts do.
The only difference it will make is that a team can no longer progress while drawing.
I went off it when Atvidaberg knocked us out the ECWC on it, in 72!
