because men speak like that to the umpires all the time and get away with it

I really don't understand why she is so highly revered.

Her coach has admitted that he was issue hand signals as coaching which is the reason she was given the code violation.

This umpire is known to be a stickler for the rules and from my knowledge is probably a bit too strict but he is consistently like this. Has given the same code violations to Djokovic. Has taken a game off Nadal. Has taken points off Murray as well as other male players.

I just think to make him out to be sexist because you are angry is very unfair on the mans character. And it also undermines (partially) the movement of women where this a real case of sexism.

Her behaviour to a code violation given for breaking the rules, as admitted by her coach, was a disgrace. I also don't understand why she brought her daughter into it either, as if that makes any difference to what has happened.

Be interesting to here Jonty's view because this he will know a lot more than me about the umpiring and rules.

Ghod, but if men talk to other umpires and get away with it then that's different. If they speak to this umpire and he punishes them the same this is not sexist. This is the difference between umpires officiating techniques. As long as this umpire is consistent to both sexes, this is not sexist.

The umpire was clearly sexist and racist, favouring the white man Williams was playing. Disgusting.

Nadal told an umpire he would never referee a big match again

Kyrgios received support from an umpire a few rounds ago at the US Open

What she did was petulant and out of order however the umpire could've defused it and if the same rules applied to the men it would happen more often because some of the abuse they give the umpires is shocking

They all love it when John McEnore used to verbally assaults a ref but outrage when a black women does it.

Men swear on court so do women but If you have had 2 warnings previously which includes a point deduction and you verbally assault the umpire which SW did you lose a game. These are the rules. IT is not bias against women what happened. Men have received the same treatment and women have also and SW has form for threatening Line judges at the US open when she is losing.
Yes She has been a great player possibly the best ever but her character on court is not a good example.
Maybe now umpires who have in the past been more lenient with swearing will clamp down on it now.
Just because an umpire has not rightfully applied the rules in the past does not mean SW can be let off the hook. She needs to apologise for her behaviour.

Yeah, fack off with your racist/sexist bullcrap. It is boring now.
So many with the victim mentality, people need to grow up and accept punishment when they do wrong. She was punished for breaking the rules not for her colour, not for being a woman.

She's bang out of order. Yeah shows how racist the authorities are in allowing her to win her 23 Grand Slams. She's one of the greatest tennis players of all time but her petulance was clearly on show this weekend.

posted on 10/9/18

She does an utter disservice to "Ladies"tennis.Would you allow your daughter to join a club where ignorant slobs behave like that ?

posted on 10/9/18

All it takes is consistent application of the rules.

I think it's probably easier to do that in tennis than it is in football as footy has lots of grey areas where players collide etc.

yeah going on that logic who needs football managers and coaches

"just score more goals than the other team durrrrrrrrrrh"
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But those 11 fellas on the field are being coached throughout the game and adjustments made but a fella in the stand putting his thumbs up is a big no no that has created all this controversy, it is an archaic daft rule.

the fact that coach admitted trying to signal her should have been the end of it, made it all about herself and the woman who everyone should have felt sorry for had her moment completely ruined by serenas tantrums, imagine winning a grand slam and hearing a defining chorus of boos

was it the same umpire? if so then I would side with serena if not then it really means nothing as umpires are all different and will I guess have different levels of leniency

1) He deducted a point for coaching, she said "I don't cheat". The Coach admitted trying to coach, regardless of the player on court that is a penalty point.

2) Smashed her racquet, got a court violation just like I have seen many men get for the same.

3) The moment he turned was not all the outburst from her, not the fact she said it's "my court" you'll see it was at the exact moment she says "you are a liar".

If it's anything like football you can moan / contest decisions etc but NOT question the integrity of the Umpire.

Maybe, just maybe no male player has gone to that precise length before?

I personally absolutely detest the woman, tennis was here long before she came along and will be long after.

She is an embarrassment. When you have a player like Azarenka going through a custody battle and keeping her composure when I'm sure sometimes she'd like to lose it.

Williams does absolutely nothing for women's rights and is simply one of those people who do more harm than good.

Ecstatic she lost.

can remember a rugby player being sent straight off for calling a ref a liar/cheat cant remember exactly what a few years back, moan and complain all you want but once you start on the integrity of the official then sorry you don't deserve no sympathy, every situation was escalated by Williams and she played up to it in front of her home crowd

I said the media loved it when McEnore lost the plot. There was even calls in the 90s complaining that this does not happen anymore.

SW does it and now its bang out of order.

I'd say threatening an umpire about not officiating another match at the top level again is worse than calling one a liar

and btw she never seen her coach trying to coach her which he also admitted but everyone seems to be forgetting

Professional sportsmen and women can be volatile, they are very driven and it’s an emotional business. If someone vents their spleen, I tend to accept it, but they have to accept their punishment. Serena makes it all about her.

So she maybe got a rum deal off the umpire, it doesn’t have to be sexist/racist. More penalties were handed out to men than women at this year’s us open. The only victim here is Osaka who had her big moment trashed by a diva.

As for equality in tennis? Well i’m male and I don’t follow tennis religiously so it’s not for me to say what level of sexism exists.

Female tennis players as a group are the highest paid female athletes... and Williams is still the top grossing female athlete on the planet. i’d Imagine all the other sports in the world where women get paid peanuts would have a higher moral ground on that argument.

--------------------
doesn't matter, if one person tries to break the rules then that's enough, doesn't matter if the other person has benefited from it, the coach attempted to break the rules, as he was acting on behalf of serena she has to take responsibility, the umpire wasn't saying he had seen serena receive coaching all he said was he saw the coach try to give signals which is not allowed, so he applied the appropriate punishment, serena is the one that escalated it
