Spurs V Barcelona The Aftermath!!!

posted on 3/10/18

Was pessimistic yesterday after the injury news but now I feel it might be one of those special Spurs nights again.

Spurs 3-1 Barca

Kane 2, Moura 1. Messi 1

Have to agree I see a hammering tonight. I hope we come out with at least a respectable scoreline though as I am currently on holiday in Spain so will have to put up with the locals if we get tonked.

By the way has anyone ever watched Real Madrid Tv out here? I was watching a under 10s penalty shoot out the other night and most of them took a better penalty than our senior players.

Cant wait for the game but feared we are gonna get smashed.

We are badly weakened in Key areas. Jan is a huge loss, reads the game so well, esp with the movement of Messi & Suarez. In central midfield, any combo we have, fit or not is simply not good enough at this level (esp going up against Rakatic & Busquets). Eriksen is a brutal injury, big game player and the supply for Kane in Dele's absence. Kane is gonna have to have a monster of game. Barca are gonna need an off night for it to be close. I fear tonight could be a big wake up call for all the mistakes from the summer...... 4-1 Barca. The pressure is on them, after some dodgy results but form is temporary, class is permanent !
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You do know that Barca are in awful form, and where beaten by the bottom team in La Liga a week or so back with all their big guns playing. They are not the all singing, all dancing team of a few years back and can be beaten if Spurs apply themselves, whoever Spurs have missing.

I am going to Wembley expecting a Spurs win, and not a drubbing. I think some supporters are secretly hoping Spurs do get smashed, so they can have a pop at the club for not buying in the summer. I am not one of those thankfully. I get behind the club at every match they play. Sure I may have a moan during or after the game if things are not going quite so well, but never before.

I am expecting a lot of goals tonight, I think we'll be afforded a lot of space.

3-2 Spurs.

Gonna be a big night. What it's all about. Shame we can't get anything close to our best XI out tonight but even so...COYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Kane to score at anytime tonight is as near as guaranteed. Will lump on that.

Sandy. Love your optimism mate, but this is Barcelona with arguably one of the greatest players to ever play the game of football. The way we are defending at the moment, Messi is going to have an absolute field day. Not only that, we got to do without our best defender Vertonghen. Not to mention other key players out. If you are honestly expecting a Spurs win, then fair play mate, but I personally think it's incredibly delusional to think that. We will be lucky to get anything from this. I hope I am wrong and made to look stupid.

bit unfair, we scored all of our pens in the last one
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but prior to that our record in penalty shoot outs was awful.

Hope you're right mate, I really do But Spurs have done NOTHING since the start of the Summer to make me be optimistic. I really hope I'm proved wrong. Sure we can get by beating PL dross. We have been comfortably outplayed by a better side in Liverpool & outfought by Watford. The Inter defeat to me was a result of a lack of concentration/ pre season. Key players Look tired, others who have played non stop over the past couple of years are now starting to pick up niggles. We don't seem to have the same kind of fluidity & Poch appears to have lost his faith in certain formations (too much chopping & changing.... Probably because there are no stand out/ defo starters in certain positions..... Both FB positions & CM spring to mind). Endlessly declaring your support for the team is all good (we all feel the same) but without some constructive critisism too its starts to look like blind faith !!!! We all know the club are operating under difficult circumstances & I'm not gonna use that as a stick to beat Levy with but despite the clubs statements about not being able to improve this squad, we area million miles behind Europe's best so are we really in it to win something or just endlessly pointing to progress while taking the high moral ground about not buying success !

My point being is that tonight could show us up to be what we really are... good enough to qualify but financing holding us back from actually doing anything...... Aka "arsenal"

I don't think these 'super clubs' try as hard in the CL group stages anyway. For them qualifying out the group is all that matters, then they start to 'turn it on' in the KO stages.

It's not incredibly delusional, that's an over exaggeration. Liverpool and Chelsea are probably better sides than Barcelona at the moment. As I've said before, even with our injuries, worse sides have taken points from Barcelona this season.

They're not quite what they used to be.

Well it is mate if you "expect " a Spurs win. What makes anyone "expect" to beat Barcelona the way we are playing and with our injuries ? If Sandy would of said, I THINK we can beat Barcelona then that's a different opinion altogether. To expect a win is delusional in my opinion because are so much better than us.

Anyway. Hopefully can enjoy the game tonight with a positive result.

So Spurs have played nine games this season and been outplayed in just one, and you are giving up. Get a grip. They were outfought by Watford for a 15 minute period, other than that, without playing well, had the game under control. In fact every game bar the Liverpool game they have been well in control of without being at their best. Plenty to look forward to.

Well said. Too many doom and gloom merchants around these days. Spurs are not absolutely at their best, but nowhere as bad as a lot are making out.

Group stage CL anything can happen. The biggest worry is that our #1 big game player (Alli) is out.

Barca aren't in great form but obviously have the superior XI; this game is also not as important to them as it is us so it will be interesting to see how they approach it. Rumours are they are dropping Dembele, which will be a relief considering how badly Trippier struggles vs quick wingers.
