They may cost money but they also generate money. Not sure if they’re a net benefit in that sense but either way I’d always keep the Royal Family - notably because I love my British/English history and the monarchy is at the epicentre of most of the major events of the last 1000 years.
Essentially, they’re part of the fabric of the United Kingdom and I see attempts to rid them as attempts to destroy our national identity.
Lots of questions, I need some answers.
Who is for, and who is against? Against
Is it a waste of public money? Yes
Should the Royal family have been banished to history like most of the Royal families around Europe? Yes
Do they have any purpose? Tourist attraction and to raise awareness of causes. They are not valid reasons to have a monarch.

My argument is you do not need a Royal Family to generate income. Henry XIII has been dead for centuries, but still people visit Hampton Court, as they do at all the Royal Palaces around Europe, where they have long since dispensed with Royalty.
I mean how many times do you see the Queen pop out of Buckingham Palace and stroll down to the local.
Dont mind the royals as I believe they bring in more money then they use. Plus like Metro, I like the historical link.
Do think things such as weddings they should pay for though, especially someone like Eugenie who's like 20th in line or whatever it is.

Assume you get more though from them now though. Think of all the tourism the royal weddings generate or all the useless tat people bought for the jubilee etc.
Having an impartial head of state is quite a good thing, I'd say. In any move towards a republican state, that would have to stay.
Other than that, the only ones I like are Liz and Harry.
Against but there are far more important things to worry about in the ever declining UK
Im indifferent to it TBH. The generation of Royals a lot more tolerable than the older mob. Living abroad I can tell you the levels of interest on US TV is massive so that can only be a good thing for publicity for the country. My parents live in Windsor and despite the policing costs/ pain in the ar5e getting around, these events generate far more than they cost re local businesses & temp jobs

Well apart from me circumnavigating the globe on three occasions, and visiting about 60 countries, you are almost right.
It's a minor royal. Like 9th to the throne?!
2m cost to police it alone.
A lot of people here in the UK haven't even heard of her, so it's unlikely many tourists would have either.
It's an absolute joke. With yet another cut to the police force (around another 10k less officers), how can spending another 2m of our tax payers money be justified.
It comes shortly after the policing bill for Trump's visit too. Another £18m of our money.

I do remember seeing on TV when Harry got married that a woman flew all the way from the US to sit in the street for a few days in the rain hoping to get a glimpse of the couple for a few seconds....Could never quite understand that to be honest, coming to see a couple who would not give you a second thought
