Not a huge fan but I think it's been proven that of the £300 million odd generated by the Crown Estate, the Government gets 75%.

That, coupled with the fact that they have no actual power makes it pointless to get rid of in my mind. It's not as if them facking off would change to class structure of the UK

The Prince of Wales alone claims almost as much land as the MoD.

Articles such as these are nothing but apologist nonsense that fails to address the fact that 90% of the population of the home islands is still forced to scramble for the less than 10% of land that is not claimed by various government agencies and "feudal" title holders.

In reality, 70% of the population has to scramble for 5% of the total available land resources (classified as urban), while the remaining 5% is claimed by rural populations.

The worst part is that massive chunks of the "unavailable" 90% of land resources is held up by nebulous members of the peerage.

How can a product that attracts millions of pounds worth of tourism every year be a waste of money?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tourists would come to London, whether you have Royal Family or not. Do they actually come to meet and greet the Royal Family personally? They just stand outside Buckingham Palace, never seeing Royalty. So you don`t really need them. Visitors would still visit the Palace.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They would but in drastically less numbers.

Will and Kate memorabilia generated huge money alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d like to pump Kate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree , I’d do bad things with her.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Filth and then sell it to the tabloids

“Irish rogue rogers Willies wife”

Mine would be ,Hitler Rodgers Kate and then has ago on pippa

I've got nothing against the Royal family. It's all a part of Great Britain's history and make up and the country wouldn't be the same without them.

In terms of Royal weddings though, I couldn't give an indefinite amount of flying facks about them, and I hate how the media shoves it in your face as if every one of us is supposed to be interested.

Yeh the land thing gets me. The aristocrats own most of it. Something not quite right there. We are all in it together and all that.

To be fair I'd wager there are a lot more royalists than those who vote for the winning party.

I suppose some don't mind keeping it pleasant in the 21st century...

Having an impartial head of state is quite a good thing, I'd say. In any move towards a republican state, that would have to stay.

Other than that, the only ones I like are Liz and Harry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah harry seems ok but his dad wasn't a royal though was he

The worst thing is the incredibly cringworthy coverage of them (and their facking weddings).

Much of the world has some bizarre need to worship and bow to their overlords. Whether it be made up gods or people born into power and wealth this must be down to a flaw in human brains. Or perhaps not even a flaw, it may well have some positive effects for the species as a whole although I can't see it myself...
