damn, a long article.

First thing that came to mind was don't let brummie hear you saying false 9

I'll read it all

I also faintly praised Fabregas, hopefully he doesn't see that

Option 4 is not going to happen from listening to Sarri in his pressers, he's not a fan of the 5 at the back.

Can see Hazard playing false 9 because our current strikers are hopeless and he did this at Napoli with Mertens playing that role.

Don't see Jorginho's position changing, he has to play deep-lying role in this system, needs to work on his defensive side of the game.

Alonso seems a certainty to play, so not sure how Emerson gets in unless Alonso is injured. Alonso spends so much time in the opposition box I reckon he'd be a better striker than both Giroud and Morata,

I'd love to see Alonso played up front in a training game at Cobham and see how he fares.

I'd like to see him in a suit casually lighting up on the touchline, all his assistants with their hair gelled all the way back looking like dons. Zola might have to hang in the stands, totally ruin the imagery

I agree with points 1 and 2. On point 2 I’d go further to say Zappacosta should also have an increased role in the squad too.

Points 3 and 4 won’t ever happen.

Zappa is awful.

Sarri's 433 collapses into a 451, Hazard being tasked with defensive responsibility (see Liverpool, that's more of what team likely going to shape into when we're penned back into defensive half).

Back three when Azpi is instructed to hold position next to CB's to condense pitch (whilst Alonso advances ahead of the ball) and helps circulate possession in attacking third (and half-spaces).

Don’t agree with any of your experiments.

- Hazard would be wasted in that position. Will see little of the ball. Rather see Pedro in that role. Our best finisher and offers better movement.

- From the little I’ve seen from Emerson he looks weak defensively. Alonso is too important to be dropped. If anything needs to change on that side of the pitch it is Barkley and Hazard putting in more of a shift defensively.

- Don’t see what Jorginho will offer in an advanced role. Tidy player that keeps things ticking in midfield.

- 352/343 is finished. Pretty sure Sarri said that before the season started.

Jorginho has previous for playing in wide midfield position and scoring, not beyond the realms of possibility that Sarri tries him there at some point (with Fabregas, Kovacic or Ampadu deep dictating).

Having said that Sarri is very content with Jorginho' deep role directing play and facilitating building from the back in the side.

I'd like to see CHO usurp Moses!

I referred to this false 9 last week

We'd need to stick with 4 at the back...and I'd include Emerson in there
Then play 5 in the middle to include Luiz at times

Then buy a decent striker...in jan if poss

- Completely disagree with your reasoning via Hazard. Fact I'd go the opposite way and say if we played him as a false 9 it could wind up proving he was wasted on the wing. Problem with Pedro in that role is his play with the ball, his off the ball movement is exactly why he's so valuable on the wing particularly in a team utilizing an effective false 9 (see Barcelona/Messi).

- Fair points via Emerson.

- Jorginho would offer the same linchpin role in CM, what might have to change to accommodate it is the overall style of play in possession. We'd become a bit more Pep like in how we'd attack (more traditional tiki taka) with the vertical passes being harder to find but that's all.

- Didn't know Sarri said that. Then I change my proposed experiment to incorporate a different four at the back formation

I think Hazard playing as a false-nine under Sarri, is the next step to maximising his talent. To be able to do this though, we'd need better wingers. It's an idea Sarri should pursue next season, if he stays.
--------------------------------------------------------------
We could probably play it this season with a very specific triangle of players attacking the space.

Pedro is perfect for it on RW as demonstrated by his Barca days, his off the ball movement will punish any CB drawn to Hazard. Barkley is the best choice we have (OK choice overall) to provide the surge from deep, not overly convinced but good enough to trail. The problem is LW, but if he gets high enough Alonso could fulfill the same function, extremely lucky but theoretically possible.

How about using Emerson as a winger in last twenty to thirty minutes of some games and replacing Victor Moses with CHO forever.

We could probably make it work, but it would limit our squad playing Hazard as a false-nine at the moment.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Fully agree, which is why we couldn't make it a permanent thing but should experiment with it from time to time just to make sure Hazard is comfortable playing it in the event he signs a new deal, the whole point of the article

Well from what I;ve seen from Hazard as a false 9 hasn't impressed me at all. He's scored a few goals playing in that role but overall his performances haven't been great. Mostly because he isn't involved in the game as much. He's best at collecting the ball from deep, skipping past players and starting attacks whilst occasionally also finishing them. I think we lose more then we gain playing him in a more advanced role.

posted on 19/10/18

I think Pedro would excel in the false 9 position. He's already very good at getting into great goal scoring positions and if given a central role his movement/intelligence off the ball would mean he'd get a lot more goal scoring chances.

That's literally the definition of a false 9
