It's a disgusting amount of money but like IOAG says, he's made the PL billions and done his job well
.................
He has got paid 2.5 million a year for that.
Yes but that doesn't seem to be an issue with the PL clubs who are willing to pay it. Like I said, the figure is obscene and I'm sure Scudamore doesn't need it and you'd like to think something like that would go to charity but it's ultimately a gift that is given to a leaving employee for good service, the difference being the amount of money involved which is related to the money the PL make. Plenty of people get gifts/bonus on top of their wage.
Once again we have a guy who is earning millions of pounds a year needing a golden goodbye. If poor Richard Scudamore couldn't save enough money since he started this job then more fool him. Give me one good reason why the clubs should stump up this money. Surely he should have saved enough money to have a happy retirement. I noticed that there was no mention of the pension that he will receive upon his retirement.

I agree but I can see why clubs probably don't have an issue when Scudamore has been instrumental in these clubs making so much money. How the money generated in the PL is distributed really should be a wider issue but I see why the clubs seem willing to do so here.
I don't particularly think it's right, however I'm more concerned by the money, the likes of Raiola, Mendez and Zahavi take out of the game!
Not sure why the fact he has made clubs money is if any relevance - he was paid handsomely to do so, and its not as if he can take it back if they don't contribute
Fack him
What a JOKE this is... The rich helping the rich get richer whilst we have ex servicemen on the streets sheltering in doorways. Sickening...

does the donation affect FFP? or is it "deductible"
City might donate 100m if it is.
Im sure Levy would negotiate that 250k down to £2.50

No issue with it. Also don't see what homeless soldiers have to do with premier league football clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot the Tory !!!, like someone said earlier, perhaps donate the £5m to homeless charities that would benefit those in need, will not have to be taxed as well
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, tagging on the "won't somebody think of the homeless soldiers" line is straight up lazy, and too often used these days as a weapon to beat anyone who earns a lot of money.
If folks are really disgusted by this, and want to see the homeless soldiers given money, then stop paying all that cash to Sky and BT, stop making the footballers, agents and execs ridiculously rich and rather donate it to charity.
Gentleman, I don't see what the fuss is about. Here is a guy that has helped generate billions of pounds in revenue for the prem and over a billion for prem clubs individually over a decade.
He should be on at least 10 million a year. 250k is pocket change to these clubs based on how much they earn for finishing last in a vastly over-rated league.
This money is coming directly out of funds he helped generate for these clubs not out of fans pockets.
It may seem like a lot of money to some folk but it really is peanuts to these people. It's certainly not being done to 'make the rich richer' and rub anyone's noses in it, it's being done as a thank you gesture for an already very rich person.
a £50 John Lewis voucher won't really do it in this situation
I just think they should pass it onto the fans. Provide free away travel for the season, put it in grass roots football, start apprenticeship programmes, etc.
Just fat cat fvcks sorting out other fat cat fvcks with others peoples money.
It's sh!t like this that leads to, somehow, the top 1% of the richest people doubling their wealth during a time of global recession and austerity.
The fact that it's 'the norm' does little to abate my feelings on it.

Looks like the cheese room won`t be opening then if Levy has to stump up £250,000.
He's retiring at 59, 7 years before most people his age.
I'm pretty sure he'll be getting a pension as well.

If owners want to give him a bung, let them but no way should it come out of club funds.

I'm sure he's already giving a fair amount to charity. Why would it be indecent to accept a parting gift from your former employers/colleagues?
If someone paid you 5 mil in your job as a parting gift would you give it to charity?
Nobody here would. It's easy to pontificate what others should do with their money but nobody would hold themselves to the same standard.
I don't want to hear that if you were earning x, you would do y, because if you were earning what you earn now and you were given that money knowing you didn't create 5 mil worth of value into your company, you would keep every penny.
He's made billions for the league so don't have a problem with this, at least he's been successful instead of massive payouts to failures.
