There is an argument (one i don't agree with) in having an independent trade policy but unfortunately the referendum was fought on misconception and fantasy.
I therefore don't agree that those who voted to leave (in the main) are "dumbskulls" but made a choice on what they thought was best for the country.
I don't think so.
They voted on a rhetoric of "taking back control", "close the borders", "£350 million per week for the NHS".
They just can't admit they were lied to and suckered in

VL and LeaveEU/BeLeave/veteransVL etc etc etc all had different slogans.
Whilst their rhetoric/propaganda was purposefully misleading, as Andy Wigmore confessed, the message didn't have to be truthful, it just had to be believable.
VL did make a convincing argument. Unfortunately (for those who bought into it) it was based on falacies...

Dominic Cummings (vote leave campaign director) reluctantly accepted they'd run with it despite knowing it was nonsense.
But agreed that the combination of people's affections to the NHS and potential additional funding could be a vote winner.
Here he is giving (cringeworthy) evidence to the commons select committee on VL produced propaganda leaflets which were branded as NHS publications. Any wonder why so many people were misled.

I've heard all the arguments and reasons for leaving the Empire but very few arguments for remaining, other than we are all ignorant racists for wanting to leave, and we will be worse off.
I am not ignorant and certainly not a racist. Being worse off is something that we should be prepared to accept for our freedom.
It is not about what happens in the short term, but the long term future of this country, a future that will be dictated to us by the overwhelming march towards a federal european state, and that is the truth that remainers will not admit. They think that things will stay the same, they won't and that is why we should leave with no deal.

Have you read the withdrawal agreement? I think you may be in for a shock...
Complete autonomy flies in the face of global trade policy. You can be completely sovereign but in doing so places trade barriers between you and trade partners.
Regulatory liberalisation and harmonisation are the building blocks of any economic partnership agreement/free trade relationship.
There are three global regulatory superpowers. The US, China, and the EU. The UK has chosen to allign itself with the EU. But will no longer have a a legislative voice in shaping the regulatory framework its bound by.
As an aside if you honestly believe the UK should leave without a negotiated settlement you've (with respect) no idea how reliant/interwoven the UK economy is with it's closest and largest trading partners.
No I havn't, I have read the ERG analysis of the agreement and listened and read many analysis by commentators both positive and negative.
I understand that there are difficulties for exporters to the EU. However regulation for their goods should be their responsibility not the Governments.
The whole ethos of the EU is protection of their markets and having them enforce their regulations on the whole of UK industry to stop us being more competitive.
Multi nationals are anti-competition and the EU encourages this by regulating to enable them to crush their competition. A case in point is the regulations on hoovers.
The socialists bang on about protecting workers rights. The only reason EU takes such an interest in this is to help multi nationals, not workers.
Environmental issues, again they make the regulation that you can't dread rivers because it will harm some kind of micro organism, consequence of which is flooding and the need to build flood defences much more expensive that just deepening the river.
Labours core policies for Industry are completely at odds with the EUs ethos which makes their opposition to leaving, especially John McDonald and Jeremy Corbyn is so worrying to me.
I respect that some people want to remain in the EU but I just wish they would admit that they are quite happy to end up as part of a federal Europe, they would get more respect from me.
This is an historic time in our countries future and it is so disappointing that the lack of political will from May has allowed us to end up in this position. She has got us a deal with a hotel Calafornia backstop, which is a bad deal and as she has said 'no deal is better than a bad deal'.
But what did she expect from the EU, if Cameron could not get any concessions from them pre-referendum, how was she going to get a good deal, even she won't call this a good deal.
No deal is now the only way forward, I like to think this was her intention all along, I doubt it though All exporters should have made contingency plans for this outcome and if that havn't they should get a move on.
29th March can't come soon enough for me, looking forward to seeing all the doomsayers eventually eat their words.
Никакая сделка не лучше плохой сделки
Apologies for the long post…
The ERG? You're more likely to gain a better understanding of trade policy by reading the Daily Express
Here's a short clip of Patrick Minford (the ERG's chief economist) explaining to the Brexit committee (to a stunned silence) that his modelling would lead to the complete destruction of the UK's manufacturing industry.
This is the guy the likes of JRM, Owen Paterson, Redwood, IDS, (the ERG etc. etc.) have relied on for Brexit trade policy. A complete and utter lunatic!
https://youtu.be/6yhzGYkJkoM
In regard to “regulation for their goods should be their responsibility not the Governments” businesses do not set laws. That is the job of legislators.
And in regard to trade, global trade policy is set by WTO members. All countries have trade policies that protect their national interests.
The EU protections you mentioned protect UK industries. The UK agri sector a prime example. In that farmer Brown’s beef in Devon is protected from cheaper imports from New Zealand (google tariff rate quotas).
Geographical Indictors protect Melton Mowbray pies, for example.
In respect to no deal who do you believe. Every recognised impact study, or those (hedge funders, investment bankers etc) who back the likes of the ERG and stand to make millions from it?
The UKG’s own assessments state:
“If the UK leaves the EU in March 2019 with no agreement in place, UK and EU licensed airlines would lose the automatic right to operate air services between the UK and the EU without seeking advance permission. This would mean that airlines operating between the UK and the EU would need to seek individual permissions to operate. EU-licensed airlines would lose the ability to operate wholly within the UK (for example from Heathrow to Edinburgh) and UK-licensed airlines would lose the ability to operate intra-EU air services (for example from Milan to Paris).”
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/flights-to-and-from-the-uk-if-theres-no-brexit-deal/flights-to-and-from-the-uk-if-theres-no-brexit-deal
“A complete ‘no deal’ outcome would be deeply damaging for the UK. It would bring UK-EU cooperation on matters vital to the national interest, such as counter-terrorism, police, justice and security matters, nuclear safeguards, data exchange and aviation, to a sudden halt.”
"The wider economic impact of an abrupt departure from the EU single market and customs union, and the adoption of WTO conditions for trade, would be felt across a range of sectors, including financial services, the agri-food sector, and aviation. It would have a particularly disruptive impact on cross-border supply chains. The short-term impact on trade in goods would also be grave: the UK’s ports would be overwhelmed by the requirement for customs and other checks. There is simply not enough time to provide the necessary capacity, IT systems, human resource and expertise to deal with such an outcome."
https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld201719/ldselect/ldeucom/46/4605.htm
In the UKG’s own no deal preparedness notices advise businesses that they may have to move operations outside of the UK to maintain market access.
Think of that for a minute. The UKG actually recommending UK businesses their ‘best bet’ is to relocate outside of the UK in the event of a failure to agree withdrawal.

In short as things stand it’s either May’s deal or remaining in the EU as no UKG would countenance a no deal scenario given the devastation it would cause to the entire country.
