They are mates and go shooting together, so it's justified!
'They' being the Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck and Scudamore. Daniel Levy & David Gold have gone on record saying they supports the move. I hope someone reminds them next time the cleaner wants a 20p an hour pay rise.

Do West Ham pay their staff? Remember they are not responsible for match day employees the way that other clubs are.

Whats that got to do with it?
Some large and wealthy clubs with wealthy owners are not paying the living wage. Including Spurs.

This is a disgrace! I will be emailing THFC.
Chelsea were the first club to pay the living wage:

Take it with a pinch of salt but I found an article by the Telegraph claiming that both Liverpool and West Ham have both been caught advertising for positions at less than the living wage.

Honestly, this is shameful behaviour by the majority of football clubs.I thought that UK was a country with basic human rights.

not true is it?
It wasnt LFC advertising for the position, from the article - "...found an “event steward” advert from sub-contractor StadiumTM offering the legal minimum of £7.38 per hour to under-25s and £7.83 for over-25s"
Football has been ruined by capitalism, I might have to start following the DPR Korea League

bit of a hollow pledge if the club excludes those employed through third parties.
Ultimately the club has control over those it procures to run elements of their business.

There were rumours that he was 'retiring' only from the PL, and that La Liga were hoping to employ him in some capacity.
PL clubs were worried that he'd take his knowledge of the PL and how they secure commercial deals and use that for La Liga's benefit.
This golden handshake will probably come with a caveat that he remains 'retired' from the job he did.

Agree, I would much prefer it if Liverpool ensured all suppliers adhered to the policy and if they don't then they aren't eligible to work for us.
I really hope that the reason the numbers are so low is that clubs don't disclose wages or discuss their policies. If it genuinely is that few clubs committed to paying the living wage then it's shameful.

Our club has made an admirable statement of intent in terms of direct employees, it would be great if they could push that out one more step and make it a requirement for 3rd party suppliers.

They probably can't. However they can decide to stop using them, I though I think you'd struggle to find one that will accept to meet the commitment..
