You're missing the point. Entertainment - not glory - is what draws people sport. Take that ingredient away & you're left with what? The equivelent of paint drying. Trophies & glory hunting has led to clubs having a win at all cost.

I knew that the game was dying a slow death when pundits, journos & fans where showering clowns like Pulis & churning out phrases like ''staying is the only thing that matters'' even though Stoke were playing a rubbish brand of football. This is the win at all costs mentality that I have a problem with. It takes away a key ingredient in football - ENTERTAINMENT.

Your point was that trophies are overrated, yet the examples you cite are people who play boring football specifically not to win trophies, but rather just to remain in the league (Pulis etc). So therefore there's no connection and you're tying yourself in knots.

Okay, take this example. Leeds United lived above their means in pursuit of what? Trophies & Glory. Their obsession with this led to them finding themselves where they are today.

The funny thing is, they weren't even the most eye catching sight in the league. They put trophies & glories ahead of entertainment & financial prudence to name just two.

I thought it was all about the Goldfish at Leeds.

I enjoy playing it. But watching it? My favourite bit is the when they show the sky for a bit on the pretence that they is a ball somewhere in shot - before showing it land and bounce a bit.

For me there is no better sport, will happily watch it for hours to the absolute disgust of Mrs Irish.

We should STOP putting so much importance in trophies. If we started caring more about playing entertaining football instead of living vicariously through others (i.e chasing glory etc) then I'd be happy. I wanna be entertained, I don't care much about the shiny little medals & trophies.

I didn't watch it. I don't really enjoy watching Golf on TV.

Actually, tbh, I've never really tried to sit and watch golf on TV. Just never really appealed - other than trying to learn from others, I just don't see it as a spectator sport really. Call me weird.

Read the title of me article. I said trophies are OVERRATED. I never said that trophies SHOULD BE DONE AWAY with.

All I'm saying is we should stop placing so much importance on winning trophies. In psychology, there's something called ''The Dopamine Effect''. That's what trophies are. An incentive to do well. So no, don't get rid of them. Just don't priorities them over them entertainment because entertainment is the main ingredient of any sporting code.

Winning is not only restricted to winning trophies. Only ONE team can win whatever tournerment/league they're playing in. I rather lose the title while playing brilliant football (e.g 1970's Dutch national side) than win playing rubbish football (i.e Greek team that won the European Cup). Entertainment trumps ''glory''.
