Not a defender in the real sense....he's a DM with an eye for a through ball...but we can probably do better these days in either position

You've only got to see the contribution he made to the Kane and son goals to see this...his face when they stilled the shot on camera said everything

Pepper

He can have 3 good games in 10 and if they’re the last 3 of 10, then somehow the previous 7 mediocre performances are forgotten.

As I say I was chuffed when we offloaded him, unhappy to see him back, but felt he’d proven me wrong in his first season back. Now I think he only seems to turn up when he may feel he’s got a point to prove.

I don’t think Cahill or Christensen would get the same forgiveness that Luiz seems to get.

Luiz suits playing in the centre of a back 3, where the other 2 CB's cover the wider areas and he doesn't have to get dragged out.

He's a liability in a back four especially with Alonso pretty much on the left wing and Hazard who never tracks back. It doesn't help when there's hardly any cover in midfield with Kante on the right wing and Jorginho not capable of shielding the back 4.

I hope it's his last season, we definitely need a new CB and Christensen deserves a run in the side even though he makes quite a few errors also.

8-10 changes most likely:

Kepa
Zappacosta, Cahill, Christensen, Emerson
Barkley, Fabregas, RLC
Pedro, Giroud, Willian

Biggest problem with luiz is his lack of urgency and wanting to play high profile or any game at his own pace. As a defender u can’t do that. He rarely, if ever, sprints, and wants strikers to play at his pace. Terrible attributes for a defender

He does the same with the ball at his feet too, takes too many touches, walks around with it and ends up passing it to Rudiger. All this makes it so easy for the opposition to set up their defensive shape.

Hope we can sign a defender and forward in January

Luiz makes to many basic mistakes to be considered a leader that commands respect. He is probably well liked, but no one is gonna take sh tt from a player who makes such poor decisions in the heat of battle or turns his back on the ball. As a comparison I refer you to JT in the league Cup final when he ended up in hospital

Very wishful thinking given normal January windows

Why would you not make a lot? We're through in the grouo, finishing 1st. Facing a league 1 opposition, give all the squad a chance to play. I'd even play CHO but Sarri not interested in giving him a chance. Not sure if Ampadu is fit

I remember when I used to get a lot of stick on here for saying Gary Neville had a fair point when he made the PS3 analogy

Overall yes, but he does put in some brilliant performances when it is make or break

or when he may feel he's got a point to prove. Pool in the league cup may be one of those. Too few and far between for me.

Yeah, he's good for the bench and the dressing room, but not first choice anymore.

2 weeks ago Luiz was playing as well as he ever has for us, one bad game in which nobody came out of smelling of roses and people are on his case. he tried to up the pace in the second half with a couple of deep driving runs which ultimately came to nothing because of offside Morata. He is pretty much the only authority figure in the team. Cant see why nobody is on Kepas case two blinding mistakes for the first two goals third goal was whole defences fault.

Well first and foremost, yes the whole team was awful agst Spurs, no doubt about that.

However, Luiz is now at the stage in his career where he should not be making basic mistakes. He is the senior defender alongside Azpi (who has been average this season in fairness).

For Kane,s goal he just turned his back, that is inexcusable and then for Son's goal, well frankly I am speechless as to what he did (or rather did not do).

Let's not forget his massive mistake against United (which led to Martial's goal) when he had no need to charge in on Mata.

These are such bad errors, ones you would not expect the likes of a young CB to make let alone an experienced one. Its hard to take to be honest and it certainly sets poor standards within he dressing room

Believe Luiz was more at fault for the 1st goal, just turning his back and pretty much getting out of the way. Luiz getting a lot of the blame because he's the senior player in the side and his performance was atrocious.

Yes, Kepa could have done better for the goals but he kept it at 3-1 when it could have been embarassing 5 or 6

I have felt all season that Luiz is a car crash waiting to happen and then in one of biggest games of the season that crash finally does happen.

He has been at fault this season for other goals that we have conceded this season like the ball-watching episode at St. Jame's Park and some that others on here have mentioned.

He needs to be dropped in my opinion to give him the big kick up the harris that he needs, as every game he looks languid and casual as if he knows that he will be in for the next game however badly he plays. At this level you cannot afford to be carrying people and the thought of him playing against Man City in a couple of weeks is frankly scary.
