It seems like a tired discussion to have, but surely it makes sense for Chelsea to go back to a back three? It seems to suit what you have at your disposal.

Alonso is freed up to do what he does best - minimal defending.

Azpi is freed up to do what he does best - defending with regular rightback duties.

Luiz has legs around him

Kante back where he belongs

Take your pick of partners for him

If he bit the bullet and put Luiz in defensive midfield, he would probably be able to do this while still nominally playing a 433

Its a fair point, but the new manager will never play that way and I thik he was brought in by Roman to play possession football

I think some people need to put his recent performances into context.

Luiz is average at defending, he is not as bad as others make him out to be, nor is he really good enough to be very dependable.

However, currently in the setup he has been left extremely vulnerable and isolated. Alonso, Hazard, Kovacic are offering him next to no protection down the left - to be honest any CB in the world would be struggling.

Two of the goals we conceded Saturday was due to him being dragged out wide to the wing, because Alonso was caught out of position. This happened time and time again against Spurs.

It kind of becomes inevitable when he's put in this position over and over again, that he will be making a mistake.

I do think he should be dropped. But I think people need to realise that we won't see any significant improvements in defence until the whole team improves defensively.

The more immediate problems for me are:

- Gaps being left by the fullbacks

- Space between midfield and defence

- Abysmal pressing from the forwards.

We really won't see any improvements with our CBs until this is sorted. A new CB will be just put into this mess instead.

It may be you have to have a huge overhaul if that is the case.

Some of your best players (Azpi, Alonso and Kante) are not being used to their maximum as it is.

I know it is one game, but that is the worst Chelsea defensive display I have seen in years against us. Much worse than the 5-3 in my opinion, which was an odd game.

I agree that is the biggest thrashing i have seen from a Spurs team agst us since the 70s and 80s....it was painful to watch from my perspective

It reminded me of us under AVB early doors. That game when you beat us 4-2 at our place with Oscar, Mata and Hazard.

He seems an odd appointment to be honest.

I suppose you have to let the coach play his way and find out who he can trust. This is usually the case for a group who have lost their identity though - see us before Poch came, or Arsenal this year. Nobody expects much, experiments can be made.

It seems weird to go for a bloke who will not best use top players in their prime though, title winners barely 18 months back
