Isn't this true of most teams when they sack the manager though? Hence why they get the boot.
The fact we out-run our opponents for the first time all season at Cardiff is ridiculous.
Jose is now on the scrap heap. Football has left him behind. Still go down as an amazing manager but nobody wants to watch that dross anymore.
Have we ran less than last season or was it down to tactics. Take a look at our FBs. They've not played or positioned themselves under Jose as they did in the last match. That speaks to me as tactics.
What I mean is did they actually or stop or was it due to tactics employed by Jose that made it so.
The only sprinting we did under Jose was when we lost the ball and all the players would sprint back to get behind the ball. That was one of the most frustrating things. Rather than sprint to win it back we would get back to our default positions and the opposition would be able to.play it out from the back.
Look at our 5th goal on saturday. 3 players hunting for the ball in the 90th min. That would never have happened at any minute under Jose
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little bit of the former but it was mostly the latter.
We were lagging behind pretty much everyone when it came to distance covered and sprints made under Mourinho and it had been the case since at least last season.
In Ole's one and only game we've been more proactive in everything we did than ib any game I can remember under the previous regime.
Are there any stats to Compare last season and this under Jose?
We were static under Jose from day one.
I dont buy inti this theory of a lack of effort from players tbh, some perhaps.
But when we beat the likes of Newcastle, Juve, Bournemouth there's no way anybody could argue the players weren't trying.
Stats like distance covered and sprints made can be hard to find although a quick search of Google has brought me to this:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45757516
Scroll down and it says we were 20th in Mourinho's first season, 19th last season and 19th this season.
That seems about right because we were bottom of the table I'd seen in January.
But when we beat the likes of Newcastle, Juve, Bournemouth there's no way anybody could argue the players weren't trying.

That's right, you don't come back as many times as we did through lack of effort.
They were trying just badly coached and clearly didn't understand what was expected of them.

Jose teams don't press. He wants them to drop into formation when they lose the ball, and when they attack they are also very ridged. Hence why his team never have high distance stats. And why they are balls.
It was just so refreshing to see a much more aggressive approach in our movement all over the pitch, in every phase of play.
From how we won the ball back, to how we transitioned and attacked.
It was excellent to watch and that was the result of what, a couple of days training ground work.
Excited to see what happens when Ole's had a bit more time to work with this group.
I think its a combination of all these factors but one leads to the other IMO.
You can't deny Jose and his tactics was part of the problem. That's not debatable and sheet performances and lack of effort are partly a consequence of that fact.
It happens just about every time a manager gets sacked.

You're telling me something I knew ages ago and have pointed out more times than I'd like to remember over the last few years.
There was definitely a lack of effort this season. Many players throughout his time at United were singled out. Rival fans told you this would affect them. You wouldn't listen. Finally, as is often the case, season three, there are too many players against him and they don't put the effort in.
Mourinho should go to Italy. The tactics still would work there and the players are a bit harder and more manly.
I actually felt sorry for him in the end. However this is a recurring theme and why he keeps changing clubs every few years.
"You wouldn't listen"
I'd say the smart United fans knew this before Jose evne arrived
Obviously some Mancs never really took to Jose but in the main, Jose was vehemently defended, especially last season when United were comfy in second place. He could hardly do any wrong at that time.
Anyone remember the 'Jose defensive masterclass' line that was trotted out when we questioned their approach at Anfield?
Today, it's the opposite with most Mancs saying they want risk taking and "I'd rather lose playing attacking football". What happened to defensive masterclass then?
A bit of a turn around there.
Shearer is your typical english former player. Speaks in cliches and repeats what other english people say when someone is sacked.
It has nothing to do with stop running for the manager but with tactics. With Mourinho your players stayed in position and didnt run a lot because he likes the passing lane press. This means he positions players in certain areas to stop the opposition pass the ball between the lines. The problem you had was the big distances between your defence and midfield and it was not in sync. with eachother. You need a commanding cb to push your defence to do this all the time.
At Liverpool we also do this for example when we don't have the ball, we position Salah and Mane between the opposition cb's and fullbacks to cut the passing Lane between them.
Against Cardiff the players swarmed as groups to win the ball back coming from different angles. I see an improvement but the big tests will be against the top sides.

However did you see games such as West Ham and Brighton? Especially the West Ham game where nobody can convince me the players were putting in 100%. There were so many that were just jigging around putting no pressure on whatsoever

Regarding lack of effort. I don't really buy it. As said above, we have come from behind a lot this season and you don't do that without effort.
When you are under instruction to maintain a rigid low block you naturally won't do that much running.
AGH! Mourinho's gone so can you stop talking shiiit about him and lying to make him seem worse than he was please? You're all pitiful pathetic losers.
Your players downed tools. Just accept it and move on. Why you're so desperate to absolve your players of any blame and turn them into clean sinless saints, I don't know. They downed tools. They did something wrong. Accept it, don't deny it. You can still move on.
They downed tools, yet they ran as much as they did when they won under him.
And a lot of rival fans seem to have this impression that we were all behind Jose. There was a clear split, with Robb at one end and I think MUDD ( could be wrong here) at the other.
shearer of course it was bad tactics, only eva doesn't blame jose.
I don't think we stopped playing for Jose. I just think that his quite negative tactics made us look very passive and slow.
When we went behind you'd often see a reaction because players had to take risks. Had Jose been prepared to take a few more risks he'd still be in his job now IMO.
Quite obviously tactical. Our distances covered didn't change much under Jose from day one.
Shearer is talking out of his backside, which is nothing new.
