Typical Spurs.... Levy using Poch's onfield success/ optimism to distract from his cheap, penny pinching BS.... So bored of him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, you are a decent poster, but do you ever stop moaning. You do know Levy is giving you a billion pound stadium, a team that are currently second in the league, semi-final of the league cup, last 16 of the CL and with the FA Cup to come.
I sometimes despair of supporters like yourself, who are behaving like a kid who cannot get his own way.

wont be a scramble that benefits Spurs. 10 clubs could trigger the release and the scramble will be for whoever pays Toby the most....... Good for him.... He deserves it

If Toby does not want to stay, let him go, Spurs are hardly short in the CB department, and he will be the wrong side of 30. No big deal for me. The club come before any player. Spurs will survive, they always do.
Eriksen, Kane, Dele would be massively more missed.

I have no interest in a billion pound stadium, I care about Spurs winning as many football matches as possible & Toby helps us do that. A stadium with a cheese room does not (however impressive the place looks). Don't kid yourself mate, Levy pays himself 6mln a year and yet has underpaid the most talented team we've had in a generation. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but 2nd in the league, still in all major cups means nothing in late December when we are competing in a sport where players leverage has never been greater and the financial benefit for clubs has never been bigger. For all the hoopla we've still won nothing, probably wont this year when the dust settles we'll just have a big shiny stadium with a big shiny empty trophy room. Come on..... How many times do you have to see this until you figure out the ending... Its like groundhog day !! I love the enthusiasm and the credit coming the way of Poch & the boys but Levy looks out for himself as does Joe Lewis. This stadium isn't some gift for the fans, its about maximizing revenue and profit. While Poch is at the helm (and not some check book manager) he allows Levy to run the club in his image/ to his benefit ......Nothing is changing at Spurs except we are all paying more for a nicer view !

If you follow Toby's Twitter, he appears fully committed to spurs and everything he's done on the pitch would support this. All he wants is a new contract.... He fully deserves a good one at Spurs. Toby & Jan are up alongside VVD & Laporte as the best CBs in the league. I'll let you look up what ours get paid vs the other 2
Spurs will survive, they always do.

no ones claiming spurs will go under if he left are they, hes a important player who's maybe leaving for virtually nothing in todays game, and a cb at 30 is not old at all if anything their in their prime
Toby obviously would like to stay otherwise he'd already be gone.
And Toby is miles ahead of Sanchez and Foyth who have potential but inexperience and several flaws.

and if they want a better contract? how long will they actually be the future for? players who get better as you hope they will will demand more money, say if sanchez in 2 years time improves greatly and wants top wages, will the cycle repeat itself again so spurs let him leave for hardly anything instead of paying a important player what the market dictates?
I know spurs have a more strict wage structure than most of the top tier teams but a new stadium, more revenue etc wasn't a large of that to keep important players?

No, In January Spurs will have to accept a bid. They can make United pay 40m instead of 25m in the summer.
Alternatively, something like 35m and he stays until the summer.
Whatever stance you have on Alderweireld staying or going is fine but can we please stop the nonsense about wrong side of 30! Such a ridiculous view to have that post-30 you're no longer useful.
Nothing wrong with Levy getting £6m a year salary.
not convinced this £25m buyout clause is real. one of those things that has been repeated so often that everyone believes it.
Levy has never done such clauses. He's on a 4+1year deal....why would Aldi limit his options 4 years ago. When he signed for us £25m release for a 30 year old CB was a very large sum.
I simply do not believe that Levy would offer it or Aldi would want it back in 2015 when he signed for us for £11m. Hopefully proved right this summer.

True but do you offer someone £180k a week for the years when they'll be 30-33? It's a big chunk of the wage budget on someone who is quality and experienced but whose game time will start to diminish through age & injury. Look at Vertonghen. A bit older and starting to pick up muscle injuries (Calf, thigh) probably through fatigue, age and the demands of the EPL.

Haven't you kind of answered your own question there though? Like you say, £25m for 30 year old CB seemed a lot 4/5 years ago so maybe that was Levy's thinking, with the idea to have him sign a new one if required.

You have to consider the overall impact. What replacement can you buy for £25m that will be a starting CB and not another player for the future?
Will they be able to adapt to our style of play or league if they're from abroad? What if they get injured anyway and how much are you paying them every week if it's anyone decent?
30-33 especially for a CB is a very good age. Chiellini, Thiago Silva, Ramos and others are all that age.
But i don't know what Toby's demands are. If it's north of £150k a week then along with Levy will be raising an eyebrow and thinking about the situation.

My thoughts too - Levy doesn't do release clauses, why would he for Toby ?

Was Toby as good as Sanchez at the same age, I doubt it otherwise he wouldn`t have been playing for Southampton

are you serious? vvd was playing for celtic than Southampton before last season, that makes literally no sense saying a player is this good at 21 so he's bound to be better than someone who was not as good at that age
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So why didn`t United pick up VVD or Toby when they were say 21. You didn`t because they were not thought of as top class back then.

not convinced this £25m buyout clause is real. one of those things that has been repeated so often that everyone believes it.

Haven't you kind of answered your own question there though? Like you say, £25m for 30 year old CB seemed a lot 4/5 years ago so maybe that was Levy's thinking, with the idea to have him sign a new one if required.

Because that’s what got him to sign for us over Southampton at the time.

Whatever stance you have on Alderweireld staying or going is fine but can we please stop the nonsense about wrong side of 30! Such a ridiculous view to have that post-30 you're no longer useful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True but do you offer someone £180k a week for the years when they'll be 30-33? It's a big chunk of the wage budget on someone who is quality and experienced but whose game time will start to diminish through age & injury. Look at Vertonghen. A bit older and starting to pick up muscle injuries (Calf, thigh) probably through fatigue, age and the demands of the EPL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have to consider the overall impact.

Nothing wrong with Levy getting £6m a year salary.

Nothing wrong with Toby getting 180K a week either
