Sorry to spoil the well meaning sentiment, but just to remind you... Spurs don’t win trophies.

Ever.

I never knew about the wage rule but that seems as far from " fair play" as it gets.

Spurs will have increased revenues from ticketing and sponsorships from their new stadium next season so will be able to increase it by more than £7m.

There's 1 problem OP, you hose that wage advantage up the Emirates urinals on the likes of Mesut 1 game a fortnight Ozil, Granit which way are we shooting this half Xhaka and Skrodan oops I did it again Mustafi.

Plus new stadium naming rights, we will be able to close that gap on Arsenal within 2-3 years.

That’s what I meant by sponsorships. How much this will close the gap on Arsenal’s revenues remains to be seen. They’re set to improve their kit sponsors by £40m a year next year.

Don't forget Spurs will have the NFL income as well - guaranteed 2 games a year for 10 years. We are also in the running to hold all of the Raiders home games next year whilst their new Stadium is developed. The NFL deal is expected to rake in around £60m a season

Will be interesting to see how much the debt repayments are for the stadium and how much that impacts transfer and wage budget.

We've got a new kit sponsorship, stadium naming rights are due for renewal too. And we will hopefully see a lot of deadwood cleared off the wage bill by the end of next summer.

If we can somehow make it into the champions league through the league or the europa, that'll help too, although I shan't be getting my hopes up for that.

We have plenty of money piled up, but we can't spend it because of the disastrous wage bill. We'd have even more if we were selling our players instead of letting them go for free.

I've seen plenty of people digging out Kroenke, but there's not much he can do here. Whether he does in the future will remain to be seen.

Worth noting also that these rules are only valid until the end of this season? So we're likely gonna see further changes.

Fair point I hadn't noticed the exception that the £7m cap can be exceeded if the club has increased its commercial/player trading/match day income (i.e. cannot include TV revenue).

Either way it's ironic that the financial mismanagement of the managerial team gives us an advantage further down the line.

Think we were really hamstrung by the wage rule because we lost a massive revenue stream in CL football. It's quite different to Spurs. Their issue will be the stadium build and the financial restraints caused by that rather than the rule IMO.

Also I have massive doubts whether any club genuinely wanting to increase their wage bill beyond the rules would have much trouble circumventing them.

The rest of what you've said is spot on though. Over the next 3-5 years we need to clear out the overpaid underperforming players (most of our squad) and get back to a wage system based on performance rather than desperation and mismanagement.

Great to see the likes of Ramsey, Wilshere and Walcott gone. Many more to follow please

Sorry to spoil your blatant lies and exaggeration, but that is factually incorrect.

That's okay, mate. You didn't spoil either

Heard so many times down the years how 'Spurs are gonna do this, Spurs are gonna do that...'

Still waiting for them to do anything of note.

Spurs have done a lot. New stadium, massive on field improvements. Only a WUM or simpleton would say they've not done remarkably well over the last few years.

Trophies would be a great way for them to celebrate their improvements but it has to be the League or CL which are incredibly difficult to win.

That's all very nice, and I'm sure it helps them sleep better a night, but history will show that as of yet they have achieved sweet FA in the last 20 years or so.

They've achieved building a new stadium, breaking into the top four consistently on a budget dwarfed by their rivals. They've achieved more than almost any other Prem side in the last few years

So should we treat finishing in top 4 like winning a trophy?

Just to re-cap...

Arsenal built a new stadium, finished in the top 4 for 20 odd seasons, despite our self-sustaining model meaning our budget was below that of our rivals (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool and, latterly Man City) yet this was never viewed as being much of an achievement at all by anyone not connected to the club.

So either revisionist towards Arsenal, or patronising towards Spurs. Can't quite decide which it is.

We went from title winners to top four though, that's called declining is it not?

Our wage bill was always top four as well

IMO we did very well to remain in the top four while selling our best players, I've never said any different (I'm sure plenty of people have though).

My major issues with the club came when we had huge cash reserves (the largest in world football according to reports) yet would not spend them. As it happened we dropped out of top four, transfers became hugely inflated by an enormous growth in TV revenue for all clubs and that huge pot money that could have taken us to the top devalued massively.

Spurs on the other hand have actually improved while under additional financial constraints due to their stadium build and currently have the 6th largest wage bill. Pretty clear difference surely?

Take our 2006 wage bill, it's the 3rd largest http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7423254.stm

In 2007-8 third again https://www.theguardian.com/football/table/2009/jun/03/premier-league-turnover-wages-debt
