Tom Cleverley has, does that mean Cleverley is better?
Harry Kane is the joint least successful player of all time.

ffs
Rooney is the least successful world class player of all time with just 1 World Cup goal
My immediate reaction to seeing the title of the thread was...
Best.
Hard to overlook Charlton, too.
As Red Russian says, you probably have to try and break it down into home nations. Surprised how little mention Giggs has. Most decorated player in English football history, one of the first names on the team-sheet through United's most successful ever periods and I maintain there's few finer sights in the game that Ryan Giggs running at defenders with the ball. I'm not saying he's top of the list, but he's part of the conversation for sure.
I'd give it to Giggsy until the end of the season tbh.
Giggs is the Welsh Florent Malouda, only rated because of longevity
Got to consider Tommy Jackson & Ralph Milne
Jack Wilshere has to be worth a mention. He scored 2 excellent goals for England against Slovenia once.
Problem with Best, is that he didn’t have the longevity.
I’m surprised at the lack of respect Rooney and Bale always get. The number of goal of the season contenders they score is crazy.

Giggs isn’t number one.
He was never a top 5 player in the world.

I don't see what longevity has to do with it. Best, greatest British player EVER. If you want longevity then James MIlner raises his ugly head

Yeah you're right actually. He was never considered one of the top wingers in the world who put fear into opposition defences. I don't think he ever scored a legendary goal either, and definitely not against Arsenal.
Take him off the list.

The 2 times you didn't win it when Rooney was at his peak you missed out by 1 point and by goal difference. Both seasons Rooney had good goalscoring seasons, but Kane is a better goalscorer so would have made the difference.

Rooney scored 26 and 27 league goals in those seasons. A rally Kane has only broken once. I’m not sure he’d have made the difference.

He wasn't tbh, quality player but not one of the best in the world. He started getting more credit in his late 30's because of his longevity.
He only played as a cf for about half a season in those two seasons. I’m not sure we’d have been more successful with Kane. Rooney was vital to the way we played, especially when he was at his peak when Ronaldo was there. Plus Kane smashing it with Spurs with low expectations isn’t the same as playing at the highest level for a big club where titles are expected. Look at Berba when he came to United.

He's broken it twice with 29 and 30. Probably would have done this season too.
Also Best’s longevity is underplayed. He peaked young but still played at a high standard for about 8 years, even when he was piiiiiiissed.
Funny thing about Kane is, if he’d scored that unbelievable chance against Croatia, then helped England past France to win the World Cup, he’d probably be Top 3 already.
He’s already bagged 2 PL Golden Boots and broke the record for best strike rate in a PL campaign (29 goals in 30 apps). He scored the most goals in the world in 2017, ahead of Messi & Ronaldo. He’s won a WC Golden Boot.
If he’d won the World Cup with a young, not hugely talented England team, he’d arguably be the best British player already.
