It's all down to money, the Premier league is watched all around the world, and they pay big money, making the clubs rich enough to attract world class players,at least in Scotland you can get to a game at a reasonable cost,a thing long gone in England,we have an excuse to be armchair fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
See Groovy, I would not disagree with that. You guys have more money etc, but some more live Scottish games on BBC1 Scotland and better scheduling so that maybe I don't have to wait up till 12.20 am to see Scottish football highlights on BBC1 Scotland is really not a lot to propose.

But, all I am saying to BBC Scotland is ,gives us more live Scottish rather than English football games and give prominence, in terms of scheduling, to Scottish, rather than English football.
-
then when somebody explains to you how it works you still blame the bbc

the spfl or the epl are not offering league games for sale to the bbc

the spfl can sell the rights to the league cup.bbc scotland used to be the highest bidder and showed the pick of the games but now bt have outbid them and they can't compete with bt

same with the sfa they sold it to premier sports instead

there was much more cup football(and european) on bbc scotland ten years ago but there used to be 2 options for cup football sky or bbc now there is 4 with bt and premier and bbc are the bottom of the list for money

it's a shame that there is much less scottish footbal on bbc scotland these days but it's not their fault the new companies pay more money

"it's a shame that there is much less scottish footbal on bbc scotland these days but it's not their fault the new companies pay more money"

OK I understand that, but it still doesn't explain the strange scheduling from BBC1 Scotland where they show English football highlights ahead of Scottish football highlights on BBC1 Scotland.

How would English football supporters feel if MOTD showed Welsh football ahead of English football?

i don't think you understand how it works bbc scotland don't dictate what game they are showing and when

surely you have heard of the sfa spl etc doing deals with tv companies before?

tuly im sorry to tell you that spfl rules mean highligts can't be shown on bbc scotland until after midnight when it is midweek fixtures

the 2 hours odd between the matches finishing and the highights being shown were probally used to edit the highlights for the tv and rehearsals etc

posted on 26/1/19

I did make a point. My point was that we pay at both ends yet are denied viewing unless we subscribe. I'll try be more lucid in future, when you're on.

Mmm. Actually, I do understand how it works, that the SFA/SPFL sell rights to the highest bidder. So, you tell me, what does that have to with scheduling English football highlights on BBC1 Scotland ahead of Scottish football highlights?

"I'll try to be more lucid..." Don't bother HMP. You've nothing to contribute. Bye.

Polloks. I've never heard of that before. But obviously a similar arrangement doesn't apply to English football since their highlights are shown earlier. Whyt?

Surprised to see him in his usual haunt tonight... Nothing wrong with that. Just thought he'd not want the awkward questions that he'll no doubt get

The viewing figures must show some people watch it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And? Would they not watch it if it was on BBC2 Scotland??

FFS. Surely, we must be the ONLY FECKIN country in the entire world that shows ANOTHER country's football before out own? Unless there even more lickspittle countries out there of course...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not another country though is it? It's the UK, which is a {country} that you live in. The best standard of football in the UK is English which is why it's first choice for all constituent {countries} of the UK.

It’s more to do with the bbc not having much money to spend on footy. You can happily blame sky for this, and you’d be right. They can afford to cover Cup ganes, but stretching a little more thin to put on an outside broadcast for Scottish cup ganes too, so they have to choose higher viewing figures. If they don’t show the English ganes then they need to fill the hole in the schedule in Scotland wakes and ni. Original programs cost money to make.

I think if you looked back pre sky changing the landscape, then they probably showed quite a lot of footy....

Comes down to money.

Exactly. But peanuts to put on in terms of equipment, logistics etc. Not so much to cover Scotland. Plus they probably have the rights to do the cup there and have to oblige somewhat.

I do laugh at the outrage about this(and I think righteous outrage), but it comes from people paying sky more to completely outclass and outbid everyone else. Reap what you sow.

Sky, fair play did it well as business models with hefty backing goes, but they might find themselves victims of their own capitalist success when the Silicon Valley boys decide to bid for footy rights...
