Yup we absolutely need a Sporting Director. Sooner or later the club will realise this. It seems that Marina is basically trying to do this role at the moment which won't work. As good as she clearly is at certain things we need a football person for that role. Ideally someone with a good track record.
I would consider Ranieri for the Sporting Director role. He must be getting tired of the strains of football management at this point. Someone with Ranieri's eye for a player and sheer wealth of football experience would be perfect to fulfil all the roles required by a Sporting Director.
Alternatively we go for a younger person for the role with lots of fresh ideas as to how to move the club forward and better ways to incorporate our young players into the senior squad.
Brummie you'd certainly get my vote over Marina.
It's pointless for us to get a DoF right now because we have no concise idea of the players we want to target because we have no clearly defined philosophy yet. If Sarri's still around in two years then we'll have a direction of sorts, and it would be a good idea to bring in someone who identifies with the football, understands the 4-3-3 inside out and filters through to the academies e.g. Rui Costa would fit that bill.
In a sense Emenalo was perfect for us. He was almost the directionless DoF, couldn't identify consistency with first team players but had a great eye for youth. Complemented us quite well.
Rumours a while back suggested we were going after Ballack. Haven’t heard anything since the start of the season though.
Sadly, we seem totally rudderless nowadays - Marina may be a good negotiator (let’s assume she is), but she doesn’t know much about running a football club it seems. I suspect any DoF would get frustrated working with the current board.

If I'd been in the position, we'd have had Aguero for ten years now and still have KDB in the team!
What about getting Dennis Wise as DOF?
I just think that it should seriously considered by all concerned ,whether an older man ie Ranieri, Hiddink, or someone ,or else a younger man, like the guys mentioned.

We can rectify that error if we don't overthink bo!!ocks like Higuain's form/Abraham's future and just pay the 96mil release clause for Icardi.
Yes Devil D.A but I reckon we won't do that and waste 35 Milan pounds on players like Drinkwater when we could have signed Sandro or Mahrez or Icardi. Also, don't talk much about Icardi as you will get accused of trying to playing fantasy football by some on this board like many people who have accused me in the past.
I was accused of playing fantasy football in 2010 when I kept putting Aguero on my Chelsea targets lists. Sometimes a player's a good FM/FIFA player, and sometimes he's just a good player period, Icardi is the latter (same as Aguero was).
I get that he might choose someone else ahead of us, we're not quite the superpower we were in 2010, but we can at least try.

Superb, Click and myself were all advocating trying to sign him back then.
After a couple of years courting him we astonishingly switched target and signed a waning Torres!
Yes I agree D A but it appears as if Chelsea don't want to sign quality players like Icardi anymore.
Maybe we'll think differently if we draw Inter in the Europa and he smashes us. We notoriously sign strikers who have great game against us. Case in point, Aguero had one really good showing against us in the Calderon and vanished at the Bridge - Torres excelled pretty much every game against us at Liverpool..... and we went for Torres
Aguero actually wanted to join Chelsea as well. He spoke publicly about how he'd love to play with Lampard and Drogba.
F ck all who damaged Chelsea by not signing Aguero for us.
