But I thought those tactics couldn’t be applied without the best players ?
There’s more than one element to it, of course some can. Most of his stuff is for the benefit of La Masia.
Pep and by a distance.
He's had a remarkable effect on the game.

Pep
Has won titles in three different leagues, breaking records along the way, helped make Barca one of the all time great sides, and his teams play pleasing on the eye Football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not exactly hard winning league titles for Barca and Bayern. Hell even City with their unlimited budget was pretty easy.
Could Pep manage a team like Arsenal and make them title winners with their measly budget?

I use to level this question at Mourinho and whether he could have done it at Liverpool with a limited budget and constantly selling the best players.
If Mourinho did bring titles to Liverpool then the best players probably wouldn’t have wanted to leave

Maybe, but iirc he’s also broken points records in each of those leagues, while loads of other managers have managed those sides and not won anywhere near what he has.
On whether he could do it in lower leagues, his first season was with a Barça reserve side in the fourth division, and he won that too, so I’d say it isn’t a question of out and out skill, but comparative to the opponents in the league you’re competing in.
It’s only - People have won titles at Bayern and City just like Pep has. The only real extraordinary success he has had is at Barca, and that was
Aregly due to Messi.
Ah, and btw, Zidane won 3 CLs, not 2, and did it in 2 1/2 seasons. Never really came across as a tactical genius (though he did outfox more than one manager), but what he stood out for most was his man-management.
Being a living legend helps, of course. Madrid players laughed at Benítez for trying to teach Modric how to shoot, but they’d sit up and listen to everything ZZ had to say - including Ronaldo, which is no mean feat.

Didn’t he break both BL and PL points totals though?
3 European cups, a league title and a 40 game unbeaten run in 3 seasons and people say he can’t get close to Pep. Crazy.

I can’t comment on the strength of the Bundesliga the season he did it with Bayern but United tied nor Liverpool were anything special the season he did it with City
It's horses for courses. Give Pep a top quality squad and he could take them to a level above what any other manager could.
Probably wouldn't have the same (relative) success with a lesser squad whereas other managers might.
I'd still have him above ZZ though.
Trigger, how did Zidane go on managing lower clubs, where he didn't the budget and top players like Ronaldo?
And how's the voting going, is Pep or Zidane winning?

He hasn’t. Which is why many United fans were reluctant to see him be offered the United job.
So, like Pep then, only at just the one club

But Zidane's success at Madrid wasn't largely due to Ronaldo?
Atleast we've seen that pep is a successful manager when he's taken away from the original situation he thrived in, we've no idea how zidane will fair elsewhere.
Yes, so take their achievements in SpaIn away and Pep has a couple of titles at Bayern and City, clubs with the best squads in their league, the biggest resources and who were already winning titles before Pep came in.
It's difficult to make out any real philosophy in Zidane's methods. At Madrid, he seemed a pragmatist who the squad respected and who knew how to manage their egos and Madrid had the finest squad in Europe at the time - though clearly on the wane last season where he still won the CL. But you still get that niggly feeling that there is nothing special about Zidane and managing a team like Chelsea, he'd probably be in the same situation as Sarri is now.

And Zidane has nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s right. Hence me questioning if the gap between them is as is being suggested given Zidane has an extra champs league whilst Pep has a couple of titles at clubs that were expected to win their league every season before he arrived.
Zidane might one day be a great coach; who knows?
It obviously takes something to win three consecutive CLs regardless of the club, and he hasn’t yet had the time that Guardiola has. But Guardiola has not just won the lot; he’s also developed a style that is now virtually synonymous with him.
You can’t really compare Zidane with him yet. It’s like comparing Solskjaer to Klopp. Both came into a club in need of a change, both brought positivity and better football, and they’ve won the same amount of trophies at their current clubs. But Solskjaer hasn’t been around long enough to make it a meaningful comparison. Better or worse doesn’t really enter into it.
