Just watched some of the highlights they showed on Sky Sports News last night and the Gomes 'errors' weren't as bad as they made out on the Radio and he recovered really well both times. Not trying to defend him here trust me, I gave up on him a long time ago!
It's difficult to judge a player's performance by listening to a man watching a TV. What does "nearly made a mistake mean?" I think Gomes gets a lot of bad press and you should judge him when you watch him.
We play Wigan this weekend, last season we drew 0-0 it was a terrible game, Spurs were awful - Gomes was brilliant and got us a point.
Freidel has been excellent and is number one but Gomes is a very good goalkeeper to have in reserve.
baaale, fair enough mate.......just sounded like he was having his usual Mare on the TV and Radio ......Still my point about our Toothless 3rd team still counts

Here's the 'highlights' haha, make your own judgments.
@ Diamond lights, come on mate i'm not judging gomes on yesterdays Radio commentary, i saw enough mistakes and c ock ups last season to know the guy is not up to scratch. I used to really rate him even though i knew he had the ability to mess up anytime but i loved the fact he would pull of an outstanding save from nothing but now i just see him as a complete liability
Its always hard to score away from home if you have Pav leading the line!
We should have scored against Hearts if it was not for a missed penalty.
We will definitely win both our games against the Shamrocks
We are still VERY light up front, as you have been saying Don, if Ade gets injured we may have to play a similar forward line last night..in the PL
Not really sure what has happened to Pav, used to really rate him for being able to score a few goals, guess i was wrong! But he will be gone in January
On Gomes...bless him, he needs a move
I think gomes should probably take up another sport tbh.
Maybe hockey?
Hockey? Maybe, any sport which doesn't involve a ball would be handy
Yep "nearly a mistake" is not a mistake. It completely depends on how authoratative the keeper is in how he deals with these "nearly" moments so to speak.
For 18 months Gomes was excellent and one of the best keepers in the league. I am not sure what happened to him last season, maybe, he had a injury? or he lost focused. If you're a keeper and you lose focus you will make mistakes.
Gomes has proven to be a match-winner, goalkeepers best years are 30plus. I think it would be a mistake to sell Gomes. I still believe Gomes has a lot to offer Spurs.
People in the press will always blame Gomes but you must look beyond this. A example of this was our pre-season tour - Friedel made a mistake but the commentator said it was a unstoppable shot. Gomes conceded a goal and the commentator said Gomes didn't even concede a goal but the same commentator said Gomes was poor.

Diamond - What Gomes does well, he does VERY well, but when he makes a mistake, they are BIG mistakes which always cost us points
He is an excellent shot stopper, can pull of amazing saves, but he is also prone to a massive error and he just never seems to recover from them
I know keepers dont win and lose you points, but last season some of his mistakes must have cost us 10-15 points...and a steady keeper has an impact on the back 4 as well
Yeah i remember that goal in South Africa, was a poor goal to let in by Friedel's standards, but at least it was in Pre-Season, i cant see him making too many mistakes in the PL
if Gomes was any good he'd be our first choice keeper, its simple as that
messia :
If Gomes was *CONSISTENTLY* good.
But the bad moments are prone to creep in, and at the worst times.
That is equally as bad as his ability to command the back four / crosses into the box.
hes rubbish, its not about his flaps, anyone whos ever played in defence before at ANY level can see how the defenders panic with Gomes in goal.
Its not about his shot stopping, hes very good at that. Its about organising and commanding the defence and hes less than useless at that.

Spot on Messiah, a keeper needs to be more than just being able to pull off top class saves every now and then. Friedal probably couldn't pull off certain saves Gomes makes but what makes him a lot better is his calm and commanding pressence in the Goal which is good for the defenders aswell. Friedal is also an excellent shot stopper so it's not like were missing much with Gomes not playing. I still believe we need to go all out and buy a top class keeper in the summer
@ RRP, i'm not really convinced with this Kane fella mate, not sure about you? I feel he looks a bit clumsy and so far has failed to impress me. Same unfortunately goes for GIO who has been useless in the games we have played him so far this season, really thought he would impress me. This Coulibaly surely needs to be given a game?

Don - I think its a bit early to judge Kane yet, to be thrown in at the deep end i think its worth giving him a bit more of a chance, but Gio has been a real let down so far, i still think if he played up front in a striking role he could do alright, but i think its pointless anyway, he will be going in Jan along with Pav
We sold 2 strikers and only brought one in, that's why we are lacking, but if Coulibaly gets a chance i hope to god he takes it! Not sure whats stopping Harry giving him a run out
Don :
Consider Kane a work in progress.
And don't overhype Coulibaly (let events take their course) .
Gio has as much chance of being at WHL come Feb, as THudd has of hiding his tail from us.
Coulibaly.
AFAIK tis still all about visas etc which determine which competitions he can currently play in. Come the next squad posting windows, that may all be sorted.
