I really can’t see why they insist on having Goncalves in the matchday squad. He offers so little. Appiah must be sat there aghast that he isn’t getting an opportunity ahead of him.
The most entertaining part of the night was “Mike Dean, he’s full of Man U!” which emanated from the Lower Bridgford, I believe. Made me chuckle.
Bring on those witches from the land of Ip.
I can’t understand what Yacob has done wrong, fora game like tonight’s I would have thought he would at least make the squad. We need the likes of Grabban, Cash, Robinson and ideally Byram, though Darikwa was ok tonight, back ASAP.
The 3rd Villa goal summed us up, simple ball into the danger area, no one reacts from the defence and the ball goes in off the Villa players hand, but still stands.
Benny scores for us, yes their is a nudge, but happens on nearly every set play, but it is disallowed. Those are the fine margins in football. Had Benny’s goal stood, who knows? But in all honesty we were second best in ALL areas tonight.
We're not out of it, but I think we will eventually find out that we are short of what is needed.
All season the only reliable attacking options have been Grabban and Lolley. Of the other attacking players Cash, Carvalho, Murphy and Osborn offer bits and bobs. Goncalves, Bonatini, Soudani, and Dias have contributed nothing. In the summer we need upgrades on Carvalho, Murphy and Osborn.
We lost tonight because we didn't have enough in the final third.
Villa won because they took their chances. Plus they employed a combination of Game management, gamesmanship and cheating
Dean was rubbish but even though the free kick for the third Villa should not have been given he didn't affect the result
Not seen any highlights but couldn’t see much wrong with Benalouane’s header to equalise. Both players were competing for the ball, he just outmuscled the Villa lad. Would have been able to build some momentum at 2-2.
The defending on the front post was diabolical for the third goal. A waist high cross simply has to be dealt with. A lack of spirit did for Forest this evening. That goal epitomises it.
At least Marinakis has personally experienced the proper reality of watching Forest these days. Thumping win followed by limp defeat. 🤐
Despite tonight, taking the season as a whole we have made good progress from the relegation zone to top half.
If we can add to our attacking options in the summer and get rid of the deadwood and have a 24/25 man squad with an average age down 3 or 4 years we could give it a good go next season.
By the way Will I think the lower Bridgford were singing
"Mike Dean, it's all about you"
To be fair, I'm sure someone commented on another site that Milosevic and Benalouane hadn't conceded from a set piece. The Villa third was poor defending and broke that run - so it was a bad night at the office in a gusty wind.
Outplayed, but we got a perfectly good equaliser right at the start of the second half. Might have made for a good game but a primadonna ref decided to disallow it.
Not impressed with Villa's gamesmanship, feigning injury to break the game up and Grealish telling Mike Dean how to ref the game. But on the night they dominated us.
Our midfield didn't cope last night, but we're still in with a shout.
Loved the 'Mike Dean - it's all about you!' chants.
We're still in it.
Last time we played them we had Cash and Grabban on the field. Add in Byram?
That's three points.
Sheet at low shots. Smith did his homework. Tactically outdone.
Think they'll do Boro for fifth. Forest sixth. Whip the Yam's in the final.
Keep the faith!!

To be fair Soudani hasn’t had much chance and scored a couple of important goals early in season. Others have been useless I agree
At full strength we are capable of beating anyone in the division. Last night we badly missed Robinson, and Grabban.
All of their goalie's kicks were aimed at Osborn who was unable to deal with 90% of them. On Saturday he had a terrific game and looked comfortable, last night he struggled. It would be interesting to see Ansarifard's touch map from last night - I don't think he had a touch in the penalty area. The fact that Murf was an improvement when he came on says it all.
Byram and Cash would also have helped last night although I think Darikwa was one of our less poor players. To stay in with a chance we need to win on Saturday and have Grabban, Cash, and maybe Byram available for the last eight games.
Last nine games:
Ipswich (A) Win
Swansea (H) Win
Rotherham (A) Win
Sheff Wed (A) Lose
Blackburn (H) Win
Sheff Utd (A) Lose
Middlesbro (H) Draw
QPR (A) Lose
Bolton (H) Win
Total 16 points
Finish with 69 points for the season - Not enough
(I'm assuming Grabban will be available for all the games after the Int'l break)

My hearing isn’t what it used to be. My take on it was that he was full of Man U as in man ur e...
Grabban is a must for these last nine games or the chances of a top 6 finish are just dreams. The Forest forwards failed to keep hold of the ball and it kept coming back at the defence which did its best. Colback was sloppy for the first allowing McGinn to outmuscle him when he should have stood off and held him up. Pants went down like a felled Redwood. No decent keeper gets beaten at his near post. It gave Villa an immediate lift and was so disappointing.
McGinn’s second was a great strike. Forest failed to track their midfield runners all night. I agree that someone like Yacob would have been better placed than Pele, who’s lack of experience in this league was laid bare, really.
The third goal was pretty embarrassing. Losing a waist high free kick from out wide to land eight yards out in the centre of the goal was amateurish. It was surprising given how well Milosevic and Ben the Loon have been dealing with such crosses recently. It was back to the bad old days of Mancienne et al when Forest were such a soft touch from set pieces.
Despite all that, it has been such a snakes and ladders season and Forest are still in with a chance. Their margin for error is extremely slim now, though. Ipswich will be licking their lips watching that performance last night so it is imperative that it isn’t repeated at Portman Road.
Caniggia, I'm not judging Soudani, how could I, but it doesn't alter the fact he hasn't contributed. Hopefully he will get his chance next season. Same applies to Byram. We have been badly hit by injuries to key players again this season and too many of our summer signings haven't been of the required standard.
Sheffield United have ten players who have started more than 25. We have six
Yes Will, Colback was kippered for the first goal, but shouldn't Osborn have been their. His positional sense is that of a midfielder.

Yes, Osborn had ventured forward but it is Colback’s role to cover the full backs when they do. Colback was obviously buzzing after his goal and thought he could muscle McGinn off the ball. It was uncharacteristicly poor judgement from Colback. Obviously, it was a very rare mistake but I think it was the key point in the game as it killed Forest’s momentum after taking a fortuitous lead.

That’s quite a telling stat. Sheff U have had the same manager all season and the settled nature of things has allowed them to build momentum and they now find themselves in a great position.
I was kind of musing around the time of the 5-5 draw at Villa earlier in the season that Forest appeared to be having some luck with injuries. I think Byram was the only absentee at that point. There are plenty, like Goncalves, who’s absence wouldn’t be felt at all! It is always the players you need the most like Dawson and Figueiredo that get crocked. 😬
