I think in hindsight he came to England far too early and it ultimately destroyed him.
He should have stayed at Porto for a few years and took his time.
God awful football and awful manager. Glad we sacked him.

This should give you a laugh then, Tims seem to think he was a success.

Without the trophies.
The squatting alone was enough to have him sacked.
Seems to over complicate the game. The football suffered. He comes across well and he's got all the lingo. He even managed to fool Levy. Style over substance.

ffs
for substance gents, my point is that he wasn't particularly schite - he took tottenham to fifth with a higher points tally than the prevous 2 seasons under redknapp, improved form of other teams was a problem for him.
good manager imo
worth pointing out the OP thinks gerrard is a good manager, despite a low win %

Gerrard took a team that finished 3rd and finished second.
AVB took one that finished 4th and finished 5th then got sacked in 7th with 18 months.
If Gerrard took us backwards this season and continued to get worse people would rightfully say he has done a schit job. Me included
Gash. Style was turgid slow build-up with no pace or incisiveness. Completely reliant on Bale. Incredibly easy to defend deep against his teams and hit them on the counter, hence the occasional tonkings Spurs received under him. Also uses loads of Brendan Rodgers-style David-Brent-isms.
Genuinely think he could have been a great Manager for us if a few things went slightly differently.
From what I remember, he signed Soldado to play as a lone striker in a 4-3-3 with the '3' in midfield being very rigid and the 2 wingers playing very wide, leaving Soldado very isolated. Massive mistake.
He also stuck with Michael Dawson, who would be a liability in any setup.
He should be credited with allowing Bale to move from the left wing (where he had been very, very good) to the right, allowing him to cut inside, and then even a free role from the centre, which transformed him into the phenomenal player he has turned into.
The way we started the 2013/14 season was extremely good. After 6 games we had won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1, only letting in 2 goals, 1 each against Arsenal and Chelsea, winning the other 4 games to nil. We weren't firing on all cylinders but who ever is that early on in the season?
Then we lost 0-3 at home to West Ham, and the rest is history...

fair assessment there, young manager at the time as well.
as i say his points tally bettered the previous years, sometimes thats unfortunate.
more than capable in scotland.
HB - out both cups, won nothing, but he beat celtic in a match so he is amazing
he's not, he's schite. utter schite.
I was at the 3-2 game at old Trafford, best game Ive ever been too
main problem with AVB I think is that towards the end the football started to get really really boring !
we had the same with rodgers tbh
first season we were excellent
second we were boring, this season its been horrific, probably the most boring football ever.
Seems to be a consensus he was schit at Spurs which was the debate.
I'll take that.
"help me , help me"
fifth in the premiership is a decent job for anyone outside man city i'm afraid.
From an outsider looking in I don’t think he was that bad for you. But I know how annoying it is for other fans to pipe up on something contrary to what your fan base believe so take with a pinch of salt But yeah, he got the highest points tally in a few years for you, suffered from losing your best player and even at the time he was sacked I believe he had won 5 points in your last 3 games. I think what didn’t help him at all was when you lost it was cataclysmic.
I’m one of the few who find him likeable and a bit sympathetic. He’s a weirdo like Guardiola, football nerd, but it just didn’t work for him post Porto, his big idea. It probably was too early for him, in particular the Chelsea job, where expectations are so high, and players just didn’t take to him.
I wonder in the future where he will be. Is he even in love with football anymore? Or does he just recognise how young he is as a manager so knows he can take some years out and still has many years to build himself to the top of the game. I think saying he’s a terrible manager is pretty harsh, he did well at Porto, pretty well at Zenit, terrible at Chelsea and average at Spurs, most top managers when they’re at start of their career have ups and downs.
I liked him but watching some of the football played under him made me want to scratch my eyes out.
points never tell the full story obviously but for a young guy i think he done quite well.
losing bale was obviously a blow, felt like tottenham over recruited that year to try and replace him.
A mate of mine, a Chelsea season ticket holder, told me Spurs should avoid AVB like the plague, he was bad news. And so it turned out. Long Live Poch...
To be fair, you could put a cheese plant in charge of your average Scottish side and it will do alright.
odd league up here, seen player who can't cut it here do well in england, same with managers.
not a league for football purists, but i dont envy the premiership tbh i find most "super sundays" to be dull as fvck.
looking at the premiership table, there are a bunch of teams in there i would have thought were championship sides, wolves, watford, palace, brighton, fulham, cardiff, huddersfield, and burnley.
i like poch but if tottenham finish behind a pretty snide chelsea team is that a good season? obviously acceptable if you finish in the top 4.
