How are the two things even remotely comparable?
One is saying Scousers grew up without fathers. The other is saying a religion of billions consists of suicide bombers and that Salah, by association is also one.

You scouse bstrds is acceptable but Salah is a bomber isn’t.
Jordan Peterson called this a mental weakness that the human race will probably never overcome.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends on the context Frankie Boyle said it, his being a comedian and all. Comparing that to a bunch of fans chanting prejudiced garbage that distills the humanity of Muslims to being "bombers" is asinine. Even more asinine is your "scouse bstrd" analogy. WTF is wrong with you, man?
Of course you're a fan of Jordan Peterson: patron saint of seething white, male resentment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, you’re right. Saying it on television is different to saying it in a pub with your mates.
What utter bizarre logic. The context is the same - both are taking the pss out of Asian men for looking like terrorists.
Guardian reader per chance?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, except you can post the context in which Frankie Boyle said it, such a comparison is asinine. What you're suggesting is that all forms of racist expression are perfectly socially acceptable as long as you can claim to be "taking the pss". In certain contexts, I'd imagine a Muslim guy could laugh with his mates about Muslim/Arab stereotypes and tropes and prejudices. But I'd also imagine no Muslim guy would want it morphing into a punch line for ridicule and derision among moronic fans. If you can't distinguish between a comedian roasting someone and both having a laugh about it and fan ridicule, you're obviously beyond help.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s the same context as far as I’m concerned. Both were mocking individuals for looking like your typical terrorist.
And yes I am suggesting just that. “Taking the pss” or joking is the very context by which we should allow such comments. Even Lenny Henry acknowledged that.

Simply explaining what they are isn’t a good argument.

Because the two things are completely different.
Looks i know us Scousershave been slighted, labelled and stereotyped in the past. But in no way have we ever been labelled as anything close to suicide bombers before just because we look similar to those that carry out atrocities.
If, for example a consort is on was made between Scousers and IR4 bombers you’d have a point. But unless you’re devoutly Catholic and prone to being offended by the term b’stard the two aren’t even in the same planet.

The concept of race in sociological terms is not just about your skin colour or shared physical qualities. Islam is very closely associated with Arab/Middle Eastern/South Asian culture. Hence, a player like Xhaka in Arsenal, or Shaqiri in Liverpool who are Muslim are not likely to be be stereotyped the way Salah would because Xhaka and Shaqiri would pass for white Europeans. Meanwhile Sikhs who are not Muslims often come in for Islamophobic prejudice and attacks because they "look" like Middle Eastern or South Asian Muslims.
These smartass comments about Islam not being a race is a very unsophisticated understanding of what "race" and racism means. The kind of crap I'd say as a smartass 15-year-old.

Fair enough. No need for the patronising and condescending final paragraph though.
If you know anything about Frankie Boyle you'd know that the joke metro is referring to wasn't someone "mocking an individual for looking like a typical terrorist".
The "joke" amongst these Chelsea fans is "oh muslims are terrorists, Salah is a Muslim so Salah is a terrorist".
Frankie Boyle's joke was satirical - that joke can be broken down to "The islamaphobic world we live in causes regular Asian people to be called terrorists solely because of the colour of their skin, this type of discrimination is laughably stupid and the type of people who carry this out should be mocked". The joke isn't "oh look at Romesh he looks like a terrorist".

Why would we be? You’re merely describing the literal differences between the 2 scenarios and presenting it as an argument.
Black bstard? Oh please. Saying a man looks like your stereotypical terrorist could be shown on every show post 9pm watershed and people would find it amusing.
Would we all laugh if someone was called a ‘black bstard’ on 8 out of 10 cats?
Of course not - but have a think abut why instead of telling me why they’re literally different things. That’s not an argument, that’s a conclusion with no premise.
Metro
“Why would we be? You’re merely describing the literal differences between the 2 scenarios and presenting it as an argument.”
Well no, you’re the one presenting the two scenarios as if there’s some sort of equivalence between the two. Being called a Scouse bstard is nothing near similar to Salah being labelled a suicide bomber, because he happens to be a Muslim.
What’s said on a telly show for comedic talent or satirical purpose is nothing like these lads being at the match and chanting that. Unless you’re saying everything chanted at the match is fair game because they’re only being funny?

Alls I’m getting from you is that because it’s Muslims, we ought to be outraged. Whether it’s regional or nationwide or even continental is neither here nor there. Whether 1000 people or offended or 1 billion people are offended is neither here nor there.

That’s an awful lot of text to have said nothing Christopher.
It also strikes me that you haven’t seen the Frankie Boyle joke in question because he says exactly what you’ve suggested he didn’t. Quite extraordinary really.
The joke doesn’t work if Romesh isn’t Asian. It’s predicated precisely on his appearance - something you’ve just attributed to the Chelsea fans.
You’re suggesting that when Frankie Boyle said Romesh looked like a shoe bomber that what he was really joking about is not the fact that he looked like a shoe bomber but anyone that believed that to be the case is a racist?
Satire yes - this is something I’ve already argued Christopher. In fact, I said something along the lines of ‘taking the pss or joking’ is the one area whereby such comments can be made. You’re agreeing with me.
But you’ve colourfully painted the Chelsea fans as racists based on an attack on all Muslims?? You won’t allow them the same luxury that a comedian would have. Are we not allowed to make satirical jokes/chants in a pub amongst friends? These lads are fully aware Salah is not a bomber and are fully aware that not all Muslims are bombers so what do you conclude from that?

You can’t distinguish it yourself from what you’ve just posted. All’s I can see is selective offence taking.

“You scouse bstrds is acceptable but Salah is a bomber isn’t.”
FFS Metro
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Instead of saying FFS, have a go at explaining why we should be outraged at one and not the other.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok
How are the two things even remotely comparable?
One is saying Scousers grew up without fathers. The other is saying a religion of billions consists of suicide bombers and that Salah, by association is also one.
You must be mental to see a link between the two.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn’t ask you how they were literally different.
I asked you why you should be outraged at one and not the other.
Simply explaining what they are isn’t a good argument.
One is a slander against Scousers, the other is a slander against Muslims.

“I asked you why you should be outraged at one and not the other.”
Of someone said ‘you black bstard’ would you make the same argument?

Sorry to say this and I’m sure many of you will lambast me (feel free) but they’ve gone way over the top with this.
Frankie Boyle said something similar about Romesh Ranganthan on television and every laughed their heads off - including Romesh who was also a panellist.

You can pretend it's the same all you want, but nobody is actually reetarded enough to believe that prejudice against Muslims or Arabs is in anyway the same as all the regional stereotypes Brits have against each other. Not even you believe it.
And nobody that talks about "selective outrage" as you have done actually cares about the issues involved, so you're not kidding anyone by the whataboutisms, deflections and ridiculous analogies. Basically, you don't give a fack that a Muslim was derogatorily tagged a bomber as a grotesque generalization against Muslims. So you venture into the silly theater of comparing that, first with a comedian making a joke in the spirit of an irreverent comedy show, and even more absurdly with scouse jokes. You're hella funny.

You casually dismiss it as it’s in the ‘spirit of an irreverent comedy show’. A group of lads in a boozer can be irreverent too. Is it the cameras that make the former acceptable I wonder ?
