Well that was helpful

Can't really help with this one Baz, you basically said what I know, it will be a challenge that's for sure.

Ok cheers Amiga, I’m sure others will have it.

Playing it on PC at the moment. Its not really like Souls games at all.

Unfortunately the parrying thing is pretty essential but its also a pretty forgiving system. Trick is to hold block and release/re-press it as the hit lands, that way its either parried or blocked and you take no damage.

Its a hard game - aren't they all?

Its also visually stunning and pretty rewarding. there are times where you will feel like a total ninja, the sword play actually looks really cool and fluid like martial arts are supposed to be. There are other moments where it kind of feels like you are cheesing the game a bit with stealth blows and then reset etc.

All in all I basically stopped playing Division 2 once I started this game and I can't recommend it enough. For those that are old enough its kind of like Tenchu (PS1 I think) mixed with Dark Souls. You won't regret getting it.

Should also say that Stealth is a big part of the game but its also not the only part. There are skills that are really good to improve it as well but its more for thinning the herd before you go full Samurai. In combat you have to have the balance right between defense and attack and you are mostly rewarded for being aggressive. Its also much easier if you have the right tools and without spoiling anything you will often find a boss difficult but if you look around and eavesdrop there are clues to what might help you out, making the encounter much easier.

Great stuff republic- Cheers for that.

Any skills you recommend getting first to male it easier?

Yeah get The Grappling hook attack and the Mikiri Counter, Suppress Presence and Suppress sound are solid pick ups, as is Chasing Slice. Later you will want the 2 Carp Skills that make it easier to break posture and the one that increases healing effectiveness. Oter than that most of the oters are situational but the main one to work towards is the one that heals after deathblow - invaluable in the late game, especially as you have one that maintains stealth following a deathblow - you can link them together for massive healing as well, lets you be a bit more free in terms of planning and less stealthy.

Also if you get stuck - maybe try and progress a different area - its not really a linear game in that there is one path so use the option if you need to.

Same as the other games in the series as well, explore everywhere and you might find that item that helps.

One thing that is very different from Souls/Bloodbourne is that the Grappling hook really changes the environment - think vertically all the time as it might help you get past a tricky encounter or sneak attack a healthbar from a boss.

Solid advice. I got the mihkri counter and whirlwind slice. I got to the ogre, but eve dropped on the men saying it was afraid of fire, went back to the temple and ended up back in time, in some estate, which I’m fighting my way through.

So far loving it. It’s really hard but is really addictive to.

One thing I did forget is to use Hanbei the undying at the shrine - he really helped me get the timings of the attacks etc. He also helps with new techniques and practicing combat arts.

Yeah used him, good training ground, and got some tips if never have thought of. Really struggling with the timing against bosses though

Haha if you get stuck check out Fextralife channel on Youtube - pretty helpful stuff and they have some guides on all different things.

If you don't want spoilers at least look at their novice and advanced guides etc.

Been using that-good tip!

Just beat the ogre, that was a pita, only to find another boss right away. Ffs!

Think this is harder than bloodborne, I awlways thiugh bloodborne was odd- a super hard 1st level and boss, then got a fair bit easier, hope this is too, I need to level up, still at nothing level!

Have you tried to fight ‘headless’? Not advised!

posted on 18/4/19

Yeah I skipped that mini boss and went straight on the actual boss and then came back and killed him after I had better attack power

Also I would suggest don't feel bad about grinding out some skills. After the first proper boss there is a really good 45sec to 1 min grind that you can use to get quite a few skills that help. I'm 9 hours in and I'm back at the Hirata estate now - killed 2 mini bosses and going for a third next

Its a hard game but once you get a few skills and some gourd upgrades it does make it a bit easier.

Took me 45 minutes and about 20 tries to beat the horse dude yesterday. I was about ready to throw the controller at the tv.

Have you seen the leaderboard they have? People are beating this game in 25 minutes!?!? How in gods name is that possible!?

posted on 20/4/19

Almost got my limit in this. Horse dude down the general after the ogre down, ogre down, shining hubter down, the flaming bull is horrendous to fight. Can’t even make it to the drunkard in hirarata

This game is too hard. There’s challenging, extremely challenging, then nigh on impossible, then sekiro.

posted on 22/4/19

Yeah its tricky fighting the bull, the best advice I can give is use sprint and hit it in the ass as he does his turns! Also use the firecrackers to frighten it - you could use this on the horse dude as well - its 500 sen from the Memorial mob and you will need it for later bosses too

Getting to the Drunkard isn't that bad I thought - depends on which bit you are in? I used stealth a lot to get there and deathblows from rooftops. I did cheese the drunkard a bit to get rid of a healthbar - not proud of it, but its just practical

If you want I can give you a breakdown of the bull fight once I get to work.

Have you got the Ashi a skill tree from the Tengu guy? If not I can break that down and we'll have you acting like a ninja in no time! 😉

*Ashina skill tree - damn auto correct.

No, I don’t, what is that? Is that the martial arts skill tree? There’s one guy at battlefield memorial who promised me something if I kill the’rats’ the assassins. Did you do that?

Bull I should be able to do going direct, parry his chsrge, 3 hits, repeat til dead. Take me 15 goes but eventually...

posted on 24/4/19

Yes kill the rats and then go back and speak to him.
You can then kill the rats over and over to get some of the descending and ascending carp skills in that tree, then get the flowing water one. Should only take about 45 secs to 1 min and then jump the wall and rest at the idol, rinse repeat.

Get those skills as 4/6 of the next bosses use swords and normal minions will be 1 deflect kills, makes almost the rest of this section so much easier.

Also get he prayer beads above the guy that asks you to kill the rats, its in the attic. That way by the time you get to lady butterfly you should have 2 prayer beads, extra vit and posture for you is a good thing

I'm at Genichiro Ashina (the dude that cut off your arm at the beginning) at the moment and he has killed me like 15 times, its supposed to be the first proper skill check in the game and he is doing my head in at the moment.

Haha,

Basically I didn't parry his charges, I hit him 1 time as he did his turns, when he sticks one end of the flaming tree in the ground. Sprint after him and hit him in the ass. Basically when he does his three hits shaking his head, stay at his ass and hit him.

Use the firecrackers to get him scared and get 3-4 hits in. He will have a rest about half way as well, get 3 hits in then. If you can get him running around in the top right of the arena as you walk in, its a smaller space so less running around to do but just stay on his ass and hit him as he turns. I jumped his big charges, as he dips his head jump towards him and you should clear him, then sprint after him and try to hit as he turns.
