Sterling and VVD both had brilliant seasons, so can understand reasons for voting for either. I can’t understand saying that City without Sterling wouldn’t make a difference, B.Silva is great as well but a completely different player and on the wing usually plays on the right. He would not get as many goals as Sterling
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sterling wouldn't have scored as many as he had without Silva.
Silva had been they're most influential player in terms of creating chances/goals this season with De Bruyne being injured for half of it.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that Sterling is behind Hazard and Salah in the goals scored/assists stats this season.
Which is poor given how much City donate possession and games, and the amount of chances they create.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Come on..you just said Sterling’s record is poor for City.. I know you probably didn’t mean literally but still very harsh. He is equivalent to Salah and Hazard for goals + assists as far as I know, plus minus 1 or 2 between all three players, not lagging behind. And the excuse about Silva..by his standards he’s actually been poor, Sterling, and Aguero, have been their chief source of goal contributions consistently throughout the season.

Van Dyke in my view should go to Real Madrid and play for them. He’s going to get better there than playing in his current team.
Just look at his other defenders around him, Matip and Lovren??
Should do while he’s getting rave reviews
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool can still win EPL and ECL double he’s not exactly slumming it
Liverpool haven’t been on fire in recent seasons but under Klopp they look decent
Maybe they will cash in on him who knows but he’s at a big club
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn’t sell him for 150 million

Of course you wouldn’t
The club get all that money and you lose one of the best players at your club in recent seasons
Clubs don’t always reinvest and they rarely replace quality line him
Yer rse must be making buttons with this race

I don't know who deserves it most, you need to have seen most of the games, and preferably some live.
The argument for VVD is false, in that it is for the best player, not the one who improved the team the most. Liverpools defence was poor, they signed a very good central defender and voila, it improved.
Sterling may not have as good stats as some others (I'm sure Toor who is developing in to Hafi2) would know, but whenever I have seen him he has been great.
If it was me I would think VVD just shades it because I have hardly seen him put a foot wrong defensively and is quite potent at the other end, but not because he improved Liverpool which is neither here nor there on a vote like this.

How can you not factor in the improvement he has made to Liverpool when deciding a winner? Surely that is one of the main deciding factors if anything

I worked with a few liverpoolfans when I lived in Ireland
I naievely thought most folk would support Celtic
They certainly had an affinity and would look for the results and they mocked me relentlessly but the EPL was massive
ATB Mate hope you get the dream

The Celtic fans in the main over here are part of the 2 team gang in that they support premier league teams and Celtic.
There are plenty of genuine Tim’s over here but a lot of 2 teamers as well
Don't agree Bats. Barcelona could have signed Ronaldo and they win the treble, but if they had won it the year before they haven't 'improved'. Yet Ronaldo may have been the star man.
City couldn't improve much this year, so whoever they had signed couldn't have had the same impact as VVD.
It's an award for the best player, not the one that has improved the team the most.

A lot of Man U Liverpool and Celtic
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Correct
Celtic and Liverpool for me
Oh, and VVD for POTY.
Celtic are the only club for me.
And then you get eejits who have a Spanish club, German club, Italian club etc
Don’t want to jinx him but it’s true what a previous poster said about not putting a foot wrong.
He’s weighed in with goals and been absolutely world class for us at CB.
It’s an unforgiving role especially at the sharp end now where any mistake can be extremely costly.
It’s ok to miscontrol or misplace passes in the attacking side of the game as it won’t lead to conceding a goal. To play with calmness and intelligence at the back is not easy and VVD makes it look easy.
Recent example is Sissoko and Park v VVD, made exactly the right decision.

VVD, outstanding every week
Sterling outstanding for 90% of the season
Hazard & Son brilliant for 70 % of the season
The winner is big VVD
Special mentions to Salah, Mane and I’m sure 4/5 other players who’ve been great again

Sterling has been outstanding player in a team that is the best in the land, easily player of the year
Son deputised when Kane has been sidelined and helped his national side in two tournaments and still producing goals that matter so Son definitely as good as any Liverpool player and very influential.
Special mention to Mohamed Salah, for his efforts to win penalties
