It’s a bit like Chelsea fans calling for Sarri out. Not sure what some people expect in just one season. Especially at two teams who are far from their heydays
Good article.
So many Arsenal fans who said they were expecting us to finish outside of the top 4 at the start of the season seem to have conveniently forgotten that and have now flipped out because we came close.
The thing is expectations can change based on other events... If we had known how poor Man Utd would be for the majority of the season back in August or how Chelsea/Tottenham would slip up and give us a chance of finishing in the Top 4 then perhaps our own initial expectations would have been different too.
People shouldn't forget things they've previously said but I suppose with the position we were in and the games we've had left I suppose it is unacceptable in many ways to throw it away like we have done, we needed just a few more points from any of those last games and we've been pathetic in all of them. Emery along with the players deserves criticism for the the way we have ended our Premier League season, it has been nothing short of abysmal.
My concern is that Emery is so obsessed/focused with winning the Europa League that he has prioritised this over finishing in the top 4 which was so close and surely should have been easier had he really prioritised it over the Europa...
I'm more than happy to give him another season. Not sure how much say he personally had over signings (you'd assume some) and they've been good - Sokratis, Toreira and Leno are all worth keeping in the first team while Gwen has good potential.
Tactically he's been ok. I don't believe some of his team selections are acceptable and they have cost us dearly at times. Other times he's got results where Wenger wouldn't have.
Give him proper backing (or whoever pulled the transfer strings last summer) and at least another season.
You may be clueless about politics but good article Kami
I completely backed him until the last 5 league games. But they have been a complete disaster, with no reasonable reason for it. Its definitely cause for concern with Emery.
Great article , hopefully Castor and others will realise that Rome wasn't built in a day and see that he needs more time to build his team.

I just don't want our fans to accept mediocrity. For a club our size finishing out of the top 4 is unacceptable.

Yes he has made mistakes this season but judgement should be reserved until he gets the chance to shift the deadwood and gets the players he wants.
Which manager do you think can get the best out of a squad full of losers and bottlers?
Does anyone on these boards think AFTV have any credibility. All seems a bit too reactionary for me. Most of us know that Emery needs time, just like Klopp has. I despise groups calling for change and then don't give the new person any time to implement said changes. I think any new manager should be given at least 3 seasons, and I am convinced that Emery will come good.

Our clubs size is irrelevant, we have to look at where we are as a team and the budget we have. What I don't get with you is you predict the worst all the time, yet when something goes wrong you are still moaning as if you didn't expect it.
What manager that we could realistic get at the moment is going to turn us into a top side again, I can't think of many.
I’m content with his first season, even if he doesn’t win Europa. It’s enough to give him support for next year. When you consider the situation we were in last year, with a squad everyone knew wasn’t near top 4 quality, not given much investment and replacing a long term manager. He’s also been unlucky with injuries so had to regularly rely on players who aren’t good enough
I’d like to see how he does with a couple more of his own players before I judge him fully as a manager. His methods seemed to work quite well for large parts of the season, but it all fell apart toward the end of the league. It could be down to the players getting tired, relying on players who are crap and have to play other guys too much. His approach may not work over a season with our squad. Could argue his should have come up with a different way of course. But as we were all aware with our poor squad, full of dumb and mentally weak players it’d be a tough challenge for anyone to get top 4 without changing the team.
If we’re still in same position next year with a few more of his players, then you can truly start to consider if he’s right for us. Have to have some patience first, no manager we could have got would have been happy with this squad. It needs a big revamp to be competitive. Fishing 4th wouldn’t have changed that’s fact. His decisions have been both poor and good this year, but it’s not been a terrible season with everything considered overall.

Castor was one of those saying we would get nowhere near top 4 this season back in August.
This season was about stopping the decline, stabilising, and starting the rebuild. This summer will be massive, and next season is make or break for Emery.
It’s clowns like Castor and his other moronic colleagues that cannot appreciate the job Unai has done.
To begin, we are saddled with a joke squad; add to that three season ending injuries to first teamers.
The disasters of Jenkinson and Leich at right back wouldn’t happen if Bellerin was fit, neither would Mustafi be making those mistakes if Holding had been around. Welbeck, for all his limitations would have contributed more than three times the goals and assists the abject Iwobi has contributed.
Finally, most underestimate the sapping effect of the Europa. Wolves have rightly drawn praise for their campaign this season; watch them battle relegation once the Ropey league is added to their program next season.
So why don’t you honour your commitment to giving Emery time? Or is it cause you were a Wenger fan and you just want to make a point...
---------------------------------------------------
Bingo!
Gd article. Emery is the man imo, he has sent the team out with a game plan but catastrophic individual errors have ruined it. He’s also been dealt a bad hand with 3 ACL injuries to solid players who would be starting. Fact is these players just aren’t gd enough.
The problem we are going to face is how to get rid of Xhaka, Mustafi, Ozil and Mkhi when we don't have Champions League football to buy their replacements or to in fact pay-off their over market contracts.

I completely understand that we need to flogg some deadwood but why can't fans accept that Emery tactics and brand of football has been garbage?
Yes there has been some very good performances at home. We have pressed and controlled games.
However the collapse at the end of the season has been a disgrace. What is our style and pattern of play?
Like I said, if we get CL football vua Europa then great. However I have got a horrible feeling that the shower of sheet we dished up against Palace and Brighton is going to cost us
What would you have preferred Castor? Losing to Spurs, Chelsea, Man Utd, Napoli etc. and so games like Brighton, Leicester, Wolves etc did not to matter or losing puff like we have at the end of the season and for some our fragile mentality players like Mustafi, Ozil, Mikhi and Xhaka being exposed under pressure?
The players were exposed under pressure but so was our manager
Everton
Palace
Wolves
Leicester
Brighton
We picked up 1 point from these games.
The manager a has to take a large proportion of the blame here.
My issue is the way he has approached these games. Team selection v Palace, crazy subs v Brighton etc
So there was no pressure when we played the bigger teams?
Those matches were only relevant because we did well in the rest of the season. Do yo understand that?
The real pressure was when top 4 was in our hands. Those last 5 games were make or break and we bottled it when it mattered most
We clearly are not good enough for the top 4...yet, we've had ample opportunities and not taken them.
It may be a good thing, because we are not ready for CL football either imo, we'll end up embarassing the Premier League.
