If we’re looking at bringing in a more senior player with experience and composure in midfield, I’d gladly see us sign a certain Croatian from La Liga... but preferably the better one, Modric. I know he’s into his 30’s but he’s very very fit, played in the PL and would bring a calmness to midfield - someone to orchestrate things and dictate tempo - which is a quality that probably would have bagged us a few more points had we possessed it.

He's past his best. Would be another Schweinsteiger. And in spite of what some of our fans thought at the time, he was pretty rubbish for us

Bastian was a wreck with injuries though and was a ghost of the player he used to be. Rakitic as far as I’m aware hasn’t had a career of injuries and is still playing at a very high level

So much depends on Pogba. If he stays I wouldn’t touch Rakitic, if he goes and we brought him and Bruno Fernandes in I think we’d have really compensated for the loss.

Not necessarily.
As much as I wouldn’t advocate for this signing, if it was some experience added to three of for young talented players being brought in, it would make sense.
I can’t imagine we will only buy youth, even if that is our focus, because we lack leadership and experience.

He’s been a quality player but it’s more of the same for us in terms of players that can’t handle the pace of the teams at the top of the EPL.

Rakitic is a very hardworking player as well. Since he went to Barca he’s had to curtail his natural attacking instincts to compensate for Messi and Suarez’s lack of off the work. It’s a signing that would come with risk, but it would have its merits as well.
I think we’ll be looking at younger midfielders, but experienced players are not signings we should avoid at all costs.
