Yeah don't think we will have as much of the ball against United (more like 50-50 I imagine) so Skipp makes more sense for this one

really wanna like Skipp but he was a passenger yesterday
our homegrown players are a concern, need more coming through in the next few years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
essentially playing as a 10 in games like yesterday is never gonna suit him. really need to be playing lo Celso or maybe kulusevski in that spot against most sides
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One day I would like to see
Maddison Bissouma Lo Celso
But think the utd game is the wrong match to try it in.
I would play Sarr instead of Skipp for that game.
Skipp's a weird one. Imposed himself on Barcelona but missing against Brentford in the space of five days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was a friendly and Barca are quite open to attacks unlike Brentford
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True so maybe Skipp or Sarr might be ok for Utd. Can't see them coming to park the bus.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah think they need to improve their positioning to give Bissouma a bit more help though, will be more difficult for him against united with better pressing and more attacking team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Bissouma can handle himself. Hopefully we will see some Ange ball. Really need Son, Rico and Kulu to turn up.
If Rashford starts on the left, it will be interesting to see where Ange positions Royal.

At this stage it's probably worth covertly following Brighton's sporting director around to out bid them for every player they go for, regardless of whether we need them or not.
Knowing our luck, we'd try that and end up with a Neil Maupay. He's probably the only shiiiiit signing they've made over the last few years.

You mean Paul Barber? Yes he did, although only as executive director and oversaw a fruitful period for spurs but only in a commercial sense. He had no impact on the footballing side.
I'm not sure he has a great deal of involvement in the recruitment side of things at Brighton but as chief exec, he clearly knows how to employ the right people. I'm not sure how much involvement he had in the 'vision' though because he joined Brighton a long time before the revolutionary approach began to take hold with Potter. He was there during the dreary Chris Hughton days of low block football. I think it just happened on his watch but still, he must have had some involvement. He speaks well though. I'd take him back at Spurs in a heartbeat with everything he must have learned over the last few years.
Technically not Brighton's DOF though.
Going back to transfers though, I've just read that there are a couple of off-field concerns about Orban based on stories that have emerged lately. I don't know the facts but it sounds like he might be a bit of a billy big bollllocks. I know he's only young but if there's one thing we need to learn over the last few years with players like Tanguy, it's that it doesn't matter how much talent you have, if you haven't got the right mentality, you've got no chance. I want a young hungry kid that's willing to learn, not someone that believes he's already made it.
This is Orban guy is interesting. He was playing in Norways 2nd division until January this year where Genk picked him up for €3m.
He has only been a pro footballer for less than two years and his rise is somewhat meteoric.
He is the definition of a rough diamond coming from the Togo league. A famous scout in Africa noticed him and a scout from Norway picked him up shortly after.
As for the stories, I've read two, one where he starts praying during a team talk from the coach and another where he is telling player where to pass the ball on his first day of training.
I think his story and background would resonate with Ange alot for some reason.
For £25m (which is alot of someone who was worth €3m) in January THIS year, he is worth a punt!
On another note, what about Véliz? I guess he gets loaned out seeing as we signed him on a 6 year contract and are waiting for his work permit.
Also we have a quite a few strikers in the youth teams like Will Lankshear(brought from Sheff utd for £2m) and did really well before being injured. Jude Soonsup Bell who was eleased by Chelsea and scored against City's U21 team over the weekend. Another coming back from injury.
Not to mention our own Scarlett and Parrot. Then you have Donley as well. We have alot of strikers but I guess none are ready right now.
Alot of these lads must be having second thoughts or looking for loans or just continuing to develope.
If that's the total sum of his off-field misdemeanours then I'm fine with that. I thought it was a lot worse. Praying is odd but not an issue and the passing thing is a sign of confidence. All the best players want the ball. I think we need someone up top who thrives on responsibility. We have too many passengers keen on the square pass at the moment. I guess that's normal post-Kane though.
He'd be a much better fit than Vlahovic in my opinion plus it leaves money to shore up the defence or midfield.

On second thoughts £25m is alot. Something like £15m with a load of add ons would be better.
I read somewhere this morning that Veliz was a Paratici recommendation which isn't great as his track record with prospects isn't great. We ended up giving Sevilla Lamela and £25m for Bryan Gil only to also give them Bryan Gil further down the line. You couldn't make up the stupidity with that deal. I can see Veliz going the same way. I trust Vickery on this one.

Definitely worth a punt yeah from what I've seen on the YT highlights video. His record is impressive as well. Obviously the Belgian first league is shiiite but he had the best goals to games ratio out of all the top 10 goal scorers last season. Aside from one other, his was the only one close to a goal a game.

It's always a gamble but every now and then an absolute worldy can come out of nowhere. Kompany spent most of his time at Anderlecht and only really had one season in Germany before City took a punt. The only thing about Orban is that he has virtually no experience at all. He's played about 40 pro games in his entire career so spending even 25m on him would be a major gamble. My guess is that it won't even be close to that.
It would be interesting to know how he got on against the bigger sides in the Conference League. Did he perform? That would be the biggest indicator of his chances of succeeding with us.

I was going by Wikipedia's stats and they may actually be inaccurate, but he had a good goalscoring rate whatever the case. £25m isn't that much of a gamble anymore when players like Caicedo are going for over £100m.
I did worry when I saw that last season Janssen was one of the Belgian first league's top scorers and above Orban. But then you delve a little deeper to find Janssen's ratio was like a 1 in 2 (18 goals in 36), whereas Orban's is more like 1 in 1 and is only 21 years of age. His goal rate for someone so young, even if it is in poorer leagues, is more like Haaland's. We should be all over him. If it doesn't work out then so what, it's still half of what we paid and wasted on Ndombele.

Obviously the Belgian first league is shiiite but he had the best goals to games ratio out of all the top 10 goal scorers last season. Aside from one other, his was the only one close to a goal a game.
