He’s not a solid as he once was, especially since Verts left.

£13 million for a 32 year old on big wages and past his best, not a bad deal.

Decent deal for us....just worry we"ll have new inexperienced defenders with Eric dier the only one left to guide them.😱

All the experience we had at the back last season didn't really help. Many clubs get relegated with lots of prem experience.

True but then lots of young/inexperienced players will also tell you it helped having a an old head around the place.

'prem experience' is a bit overplayed. just depends on the characters of said players.

The age/experience thing is a bit of a red herring. However you look at it, it's a risk to bring in a whole new defence that's never played together, especially in a new league. It may work - you'd hope they've been thoroughly scouted and assessed in terms of character as much as technical skills - but even if they have strong personalities and leadership skills, it's always a risk when you have a bunch of new players having to forge partnerships together in a short time.

As in, the above applies whether they're young or old. New players always have a settling in period and when that's several players next to each other on the pitch it can be tricky.

I reckon Paratici has been told to shift the older players and bring in youngsters. It seems to be the way with players we’ve been linked to and who’s been linked with leaving.
