His contract isn't up for renewal yet.

Varane, Kroos and Isco and he can go.

its where football clubs have hamstrung themselves now with the ridiculous contracts they initially give, I mean imagine giving a player 350k a week him not performing up to that(when you compare players on similar money) then after 3 years having to up that despite him not being worth the initial contract,

still patiently waiting for the 1st player who gets a wage demotion at a contract renewal because he's not performed to his initial one(not just a end of career contract), I have a feeling will be waiting a looooooooong time

You couldn't even do that on football manager.

Exactly. Price them out of a move and get on with the necessary transfers

More to do with keeping things civil rather than intentionally derailing the thread and taking it where is has gone the past few days with the other threads.

United Kaz, players have too much power now. Before the clubs had it but its swung all the way round to the players. Hence them being able to do this.

And examples have to be made and made by the big clubs (not just one, but a few) and things might change.

Agents are another issue.

On Pogba, I want him gone. Get as much as we can.

It's a shame as over the past few years, we have signed players I think we should not have and had hoped they proved me wrong. So far, Pogba, Falcao, Di Maria, Matic and Lukaku have not done that. With Falcao and Matic, I can't complain much as they kept it professional. The others, not so much.

Indeed. Madrid are welcome to him for the right money.

Pogba will be complaining about his price again.

Yeah, done with him. Better players have left us. We are in the midst of the biggest rebuild we have had for many years, can't afford to have overpaid passengers that turn up for two months of the season.

Think this happened with Ashley Young a year or two ago.

I don't know why he still gets a wage at the club to be honest.

Young falls into this exception stated by the poster "not just a end of career contract".

It'll be difficult to judge if a player has or has not performed up to the level of his salary. Whats the criteria that everyone can use and what about the mitigating circumstances? Poor form from his team mates, injuries, manager changes etc.

That's why there'll never be a situation where a player can get a wage demotion

This has been the problem (amongst many others) with the board’s thinking.

At one point they (Ole) collectively want players who would give their all to prove themselves at this club. We’ve already let one go in Herrera. And we’ve recently signed young James - who is unproven at this level.

Now we have a player who has openly aired his desires to leave. Yet we are reluctant to sell him. Mainly because he has been one of the leagues’ statistically better performers, I get that part. But statistics only paint a part of that picture. Pogba just doesn’t have the commitment to play for us in the long run. And the money - providing we get a huge fee, has to be spent on the right quality players. Otherwise it’s kind of pointless in selling Pogba for big money.
