It's weird, the last 3 seasons it's like we've started copying how they've been doing since their last PL title in 2003-04. The season after that they they finish second on over 80 points. Then they finish third with a lower points total, and then they finish 4th with an even lower points total, and reach the CL final, and have a new stadium. We've pretty much echoed it to a tee.

Need to make sure that we aren't going to end up just like them from that point onwards, making top 4 appearances with nothing else to show for it, before finally giving our top 4 spot away.

OP, you could take all of your points and apply to United too?

All clubs go through cycles and AVB just realised it was Arsenal's time to do the same

I don't see Liverpool winning it like I said it last season and it was true

It will be City first and then the rest

Possible within the rest, Liverpool leading and then Spurs/United then Chelsea

They definitely need to. The differences between then for Arsenal and now for us is that Poch isn't going to bother sticking around as long as Wenger did, and there's no top 4 anymore, there's a more competitive top 6.

Context is all wrong here. AVB was not talking about the long term situation at Arsenal when he made the ‘negative spiral’ comment. He was referring specifically to their form and results in the 2012/13 season during the top 4 race. It was a comment that came back to haunt him as Arsenal’s form almost instantly picked up while ours stuttered and they beat us to a top 4 place despite us finishing 5th with what was at the time our record PL points tally.
